I've read several recommendations about threatening to report landlords who are demanding dollars to AFIP to get them to accept pesos. We basically had to find a new apartment because our old landlord insisted on dollars (it's over now), but I would like to report him to someone. I have his name and DNI. What do you recommend? I won't get into it here, but he was abusive and clearly scamming us.

I'd go into an AFIP (they're all over town... there's a fairly big one on Cabildo near Lacroze) and ask to speak to someone...bring his DNI, address, etc. And probably your identification and any evidence that you have of living there and paying what you were paying. Be prepared for a wait. They're often full up with people trying to find out why they've been denied dollars.

At this point there's probably not a lot you can do... at least not anything that amounts to more than an angry letter. I seriously doubt AFIP investigates these cases. :p

Your bargaining chip is while living in the apartment. You can refuse to pay and have a carta documento sent taking legal actions against the landlord should he refuse to take pesos. That's a legal battle most people don't want to get involved with, but sometimes the bluff works.

In any case, if you want to make the denuncia you can also call AFIP at 0800-999-2347. I'm not sure they handle temporary rentals or this type of complaint, but I suppose it's worth a shot.

My advice is to forget about it, it's over now and not worth the headache of reporting him. On another note, it's obviously your call, but revenge isn't a good motivator for much in life.
