Not the first time I name this place, but it's simply fantastic and well worth spending nearly 1.000 pesos (after all, that's the price for three dinners in eventually overrated Palermo restaurants).

I enjoyed a special treatment (one different wine with each plate + a surprise menu) since the Chef, Olivier Falchi, is French and I took cooking classes from him (at Gato Dumas).

In fact, such a dinner in NY or Paris could likely cost 1.000 USD/EUR for two so Buenos Aires is still cheap under some aspects.

"Mise en bouche" (pre-appetizer): A few cheeses, the best olive oil I tasted here, various breads.

An "oeuf mollet" (soft boiled egg) with a thin layer of a truffle mousse.

The wines were absolutely amazing. I think it was with PhilipDT we mentionned the possibility having an expat dinner there. A "descorche" (bringing our own wines) would be possible but still, each wine was just magnificent (we had a few from Patagonia since we were to head there afterwards):

Could be nice to have an expat dinner there with 6/8 people (with a degustation menu to try many different plates). It can be organized, anyone interested (trying to find an excuse to go back there)?

1000 pesos and they didnt spring for napkins ?
Utensils directly on the table is uber gross !
Food looks good tho

I will concur with French Jurist, le sud is darn good food and a decent value for what you get. If I can get over my current disgust with Sofitel hotels I'll be back in a second.

Is it 1000 pesos per person or for two people including wine ? Please elaborate. I think the price is ridiculous but I can't help but want to try it at some point with a special lady.

I paid around 850 pesos (for two) but I left 150 pesos of tip since all the team (sommelier, waitress, etc.) was really great (and we enjoyed a plus: likely they don't serve that much wine in usual degustation menus).

For me it's worth every dime (I also go at Mc Donald's at times) and somehow I prefer to go once to such a restaurant than going three times to an average & expensive Palermo one (where you'll pay easily 300/350 pesos for two with wine).

I've had the chance to go to a few top restaurants in my life (mostly in Paris, at Le Crillon, at the Prince de Galles, the one of Gagnaire) in Le Sud stands the comparison. And for less than 200 Euros for two, wine included, that's rather inexpensive for this standard.

It's the difference between ordinary "cuisine" and "grande cuisine". In "grande cuisine", everything is simply perfect: like a melody with no wrong note in music, until the smallest cherry tomato is cooked the right way, you discover new flavours even one minute after having started to taste a specific food, etc.

Tempting!! I am impressed by the color of that red wine. I guess some of the violet-ish hue comes from the water glass behind, still, argentine wines tend to be thicker, not as translucent as that one must have been. Do you remember the winery?

I don't remember the wines (shame on me), there were at least two from Patagonia. I guess that could be a good excuse to go back there and write down the wine's names this time!
