Sending gifts

Hi All,
I met a lovely young couple while travelling earlier this year. They messaged me today to say they are getting married next month. Which is very exciting.
I want to send them a gift, but I'm all the way over in NZ. Sending even the tiniest package is 100 dollars.
So I thought I might buy something on Amazon like a pot set, or something practical. As they are both students and I thought they would like this.
I also thought about an Amazon echo or Google nest as they love their music.
Anyhow, I'm wondering if I purchase a big item off Amazon will it incur any import taxes.
I would be happy to shop locally and have it delivered but I don't speak Spanish to navigate the department store website. Also unsure if my credit card would get flagged.
I also thought about sending cash, but NZ dollars arent that that easy to exchange there and I would first have to pay to convert to US (half the kiwi dollar) and then they would have to exchange and Lose money again, on the blue dollar. Seems kinda pointless.
Any insight would be helpful.

I think that's a lovely, lovely idea! In Argentina cash wedding gifts are always very acceptable (I've done this several times) especially if the couple are already living together and have all the usual things for the home. If they have an Argentina based US dollar bank account (many Argentines do) it should be easy enough to send them dollars.

I regularly send money the other way - to Australia - and can specify the exact amount in AUD that should arrive in their account so I pay all the charges. I use PayPal though I am sure others here can suggest potentially better ways to do this.

So you think straight into their account maybe easiest? The NZ dollars is not that strong...

The ratio between USD and NZD is beyond individual control. When I send AUD from my GBP account I decide how many AUD I want to appear in the recipient's account and work backwards from there. I'm sure that any amount that you feel comfortable about giving will be accepted in the same generous spirit in which you offer the gift.
