Ok, I know there are lots of posts already about this, but I can't seem to find the exact answer so...

I have a package in the US I want shipped here - mostly old clothes, pair of boots, purse, old cell phone and a credit card.

There are rules about having your clothes disinfected that I just can't believe. Also, I am living here, but on a tourist visa, and have only been here about 5 months. It seems there are different rules for packages depending on your status here.

I know it is a pain to ship stuff, but I really want my things. Can anyone tell me the process and easiest way to deal with this?

Thank you!!!

--> Send using USPS airmail + certified/registered. Package will arrive in 12/15 days.

If the package is certified/registered, you'll get it for sure and will pick it up in Retiro.

Be advised though that clothes and especially shoes are barred from entry in Argentina but since those are used/personal items, the Customs shouldn't bother you.

If you are really unlucky you'll pay import taxes but most likely you won't.

That's your only option (except if you find a mule).

Hey, thanks for the response! Yeah, I heard as long as I put that it is worth $0 I wont have to pay taxes (hopefully). But could they possibly take my things? What about having them disinfected?

The Argentinean customs won't ask you anything about disinfection.
When you go to pick it up, just say the package contains "ropa usada que yo habia olvidado de traer" and it should be fine. Eventually don't say there are shoes (import laws are quite strict regarding shoes, oddly enough).

They won't take your things and you would be -very- unlucky to pay any tax.

I have had 4 pairs of shoes with the tags still on them & brand new clothes shipped here and wasn't even charged a dime for taxes. I'm sure I was lucky, but I have been sent 6 boxes & never had a single problem.

The safest bet is to label as books (supposedly you are not charged taxes for books if it's under something like 20+ dollars). If you put a zero value they might get suspicious. Who sends something worth 0 dollars? I'd put something like 10 dollars. And try to make the box look like it actually contains books.

but they will open it up & see it's not books. If it doesn't have a tag on it they make up a pric for it. With the last box I got it had about 20 pieces of new clothes that my mother got on clearance from between $2-$5. They didn't bother to look at all the tags. She looked at 1 that saw $5 & charged it times 20 & charged the 50% tax of that. I think it all depends on your luck that day.

I think the cell phone could cause a problem (and charges) with the aduana (even if it isn't worth much), and I would not have the credit card sent in the same package with the clothes, purse, and boots. Have it sent it by FedEx or USPS certified/registered mail.

The credit card can be put into the shoes, under the sole (throw inside also a piece of old cheese so that no one dares to inspect it :p)
