So I got jipped today--Bienvenidos a Argentina, I guess

Speaking of which, if I can add a question to this thread... I want to switch from Claro to Movistar on Pre-pago AND bring my number over too. I went to the official Movistar shop on av. Cabildo in Belgrano, and they told me that to switch my number over too, I will have to wait until mid-March when that option becomes available. (at no extra charge). I'm going on a trip so I thought I'll wait til I get back in mid-April. But my question is, how much can I expect to pay, especially since it will be directly from the store? I believe I got my Claro chip from a kiosk second hand for really cheap (can't remember as my porteño friend wouldn't let me pay for it- but I remember it being cheap). Thanks for the help if you know!

I think it's going to be a long three years for you.

LOL

Yeah, if you buy the cards right from the providers they are always a little pricier - 30-40 pesos sounds about right. There may be a reason for this but I don't remember. It's not just one guy ripping you off. Think of it this way: buy a book at an Amazon store (if there were stores - think Chapters for Canadians) - you'd pay book jacket price; buy it online, you pay MUCH less. Where you buy makes a difference.

Get used there being ALL kinds of prices and it's not just the individual's mood. Bank you use, day of the week, payment form - all of these can make a big difference. It's not being ripped off per se it's a question of the fact no one ever pays full price if they can help it.

It's tricky but it's way better in some ways than in Canada/ USA where consumers pay fixed prices even though credit cards all have very different merchant fees... some of those fluctuations could be passed on to the consumer instead of maintaining inflated but standard prices.

It seems like people have taken it on themselves to tell me how wrong I was and that I shouldn't think this way or do that thing. Please read the original post, I AM ASKING WHETHER MY FEELING IS CORRECT OR NOT. That's it. I don't care how much the guy stole, I just want to know if the guy stole money from me or not. Or is that information really hard to come by in this country of rumors?

in a proper shop it can cost up to $50 pesos. you can also by one illegally activated for $5 on the street

Your post title "So I got jipped today" more than sufficiently indicated you were fairly certain that you were.

Anyhow, realize perhaps that was not your intent and as has been described above, paying more in a store is normal. Voila.

Alright, I will change the title. I assumed that people were going to read the body of the post and not just the title.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, come to think of it, I have no idea how to edit the title of a post.

I bought a Personal sim for a friend only a week ago (from a Kiosco near Las Heras y Scalabrini so not an official store) and paid 20 pesos for the sim. It didnt come with credit so that was an extra that we had to buy.
