So much for herd immunity?

I don't believe the Chinese data obviously. Their numbers are artificially lower BUT no where nearly as high as you suggest. The city, the center of the epidemic in China, is completely open now, all activities are allowed. For NOW things are under control.

We know that his pandemic will end eventually. So? In the meantime we need to be responsible. NO need for a one-size fits all quarantines (like in Argentina) or total lockdowns but social distancing, using mask and washing hands -- just common sense.
Too many people are saying across the internet that we must now completely reorder society, deal with climate change, etc, because of this pandemic. Of course we must use common sense. But we must not let people take advantage of a crisis to seize power.

As for the Chinese, they were dishonest from the start. Wuhan is a city of 11 million people living closely together. Once they said they had it contained new cases and deaths were given in single digits. Non-official sources were saying it was much higher. The Chinese are about saving face, not truth telling. No other country had it cut off like that. So if someone is saying 600,000+ in a country of 1.4 billion I find that much more likely than what the official numbers are.

If you study history you would find out great social and economic advances take place during or right after a crisis. As someone once said, never let a crisis go unused. When we are forced outside of our comfort zone growth happens. Capitalism and social order does need to be rebranded. It's the best system we have but it ain't perfect. Wealth is concentrated in the hands of too few -- because wealth generates wealth. If the same person with the same skills and same life circumstances was born in 1975 and today, the latter would be 2 times poorer.

I'm perfectly fine with improving capitalism. Countries that go the socialism route tend to end up broke. But I don't want to be in a culture that says you must see it our way, do as we say, or we'll cancel you. Too much of that going on right now.

P.S. I have read history, studied it for most of my 58 years.

Agreed, like Trump trying to cancel Goodyear tires.

Let the ones who are going to die, die. The reality is that the world cannot and should not go on like this forever. Maybe it will be a wake up call for those who don't have pre-existing conditions to adopt healthy living. Take care of your immune system, and metabolism. Stop consuming those seed oils! Regardless of age, taking care of your health will go a long way in fighting covid or any flu type virus for that matter.

What an enlightened point of view. Are you a Ben Sharpiro listener?

For many people their existing conditions are not a matter choice or lifestyle but genetics or old age.

How about isolating the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions and let everyone else get back to living and working.
Oh wait, that's how we started the lockdowns.

They tried here in CABA to do that, but it was ruled unconstitutional or discriminatory to single out old people or unhealthy people....

I was out on the weekend and saw a lot of over 60s and 70s close to other people in large groups, Sharing food and drink, and not wearing masks ...forgetting that we will all wearing masks and have spent the better part of 6 months indoors to keep them alive ... so they can go party and have asado.
