So, whats next?

Barcelona is beautiful in summer time but just a town in winter time. I mean, Berlin is a big city, Barcelona isn t.

The crisis means that it is going to be a cheaper place to live but a bad place to make money, depends on how do you make your living.

Regards

Dresden and Leipzig both got (way) cheaper property and à better climate then Berlin, even more central then Berlin as well

I disagree with BajoCero, while I am Madrileño and we automatically hate Catalans (LOL), Barcelona is certainly not a village at any time of the year. It might have it´s touristic ¨boom¨ in the Summer when most of the tourists come for the beaches, but during the year it´s certainly not a sleepy place to live.

It has a population of nearly 2 million people and is the corporate headquarters for the Iberian peninsula (Spain and Portugal) for many top corporations such as Coca Cola, Danone, among numerous major multinationals.

Even though you cannot argue that Spain as a whole has a depressed economy, there are a few who are still doing quite well living in Spain, thanks to Spain´s influence with other economies/markets.

Flats in Barcelona are still expensive both to buy or rent, because there is a small niche of people who still continue to thrive buying into this city.

Luxury car maker Lexus, had record sales for all of Europe, in Barcelona, in fiscal 2011.

I wrote a long reply explaining why Germany would be the better choice out of the three (economy growing, adding jobs, etc) but the GODAMNED internet of Telecentro decided to go out the very second I pressed "Post Quick Reply"!

Anyway, in short, what I said was that Thailand is just as unstable as Latin America with red shirts being a very real and a big problem. Their PM now is asking them to protest again (and when they protest, people die! I was there last time they got protesting, those bastards!) because he thinks the military is going to take over again (they have had 20 coups in the last 100 years--so much for stabiliaty).

Contrary to popular news (scary stories), the EU is not going anywhere. It is weaker, yeah, but not finished. It is against everyone's interests (especially China) to let it fail. People who say that Europe, (or America, for that matter) is finished don't know the first thing about economics (same goes for people who think China is the next super power).

Speaking of China, they're headed for either a very ugly slow down in their economy (untweaked numbers, of course) or a very hard crash, the former is bad for the world economy and the latter will result in a worse crises than we saw in 2008.

Anyway, Berlin, go there. No political unstability and if they have economic problems, it will take years of slow down for the regular Joe to feel the effects.

Nice site for those spanish speakers interested in Berlin:

...I guess after the very helpful advice of the forum members and some figuring out of the numbers and possibilities there, I will be going to Berlin at the end of the year! Can`t waaaait :D

Anyone recommending Europe to live now is like telling people to immigrate to a new land before the great depression . Europe will collapse like a pack of cards soon and as soon as this happens Latin America will be like the last frontier for those lucky enough to get out of Europe with their shirts intact and their savings unfrozen by the worsening crisis.

As much as I find Argentina expasperating to live in I would never emigrate from here in a fit now . Wait until 2013 and the picture will be much clearer but I warn those who are planning to move to Europe DO NOT DO IT !

I don't know about the rest of Latin America but Argentina is at boiling point, whether those of us who live here like it or not.

Europe is in bad shape, yeah but its not OVER. Stop watching CNN and BBC (the "NEWS" channel that said China was going to be Cultural, Economic, and Military superpower by 2001).

You have specific countries in Europe you should avoid. Spain is one of them. Germany on the other hand is fine and dandy. In fact, contrary to what the economists were saying before, Scotland isn't even going to have any double dip.

Anyway, its your decision, do what you want but if you have any opportunity to go somewhere better, take it. If that place goes to hell, then you can go somewhere else...for now, Germany is pretty good and it will take years for it to go down the dump, if it ever does.

Sorry, didn't read your post above before I wrote my reply. Good for you! Hope you enjoy civilization!

You need to think about what brought you down here in the first place. If the cultural/sociological/human/aesthetic side of life in AR doesn't please you, you shouldn't have come in the first place. After all, as people here will tirelessly point out, everything else ranges from inconvenient to downright difficult.

When I've been to Germany and Austraia, I greatly appreciated the achievements of their civilisation; the cleanliness, the order, the straightforwardness. However, I could never live among Teutonic people. I just found that I have much more in common with Italians and Spanish and Greeks than I do with Germans, Scandinavians or Anglo-Americans. If you are not a "southern" person in temperament, Germany may be the perfect place for you. But in that case, why come to Argentina at all? LAM never was and never will be German clockwork. Trains and flights won't run on time, meetings will always be late, bureaucracy will always be ineffectual, lines will be long, people will never bed early and rise early, and debates will always be heated. If you don't like this life and want its logical opposite, Germany was the right place for you all along. But if you do, why leave?

Everyone's got their reasons. I don't feel comfortable sharing mine but like I said, everyone's got their reasons for being here.

The four things you mentioned are not all life's about (unless of course you expand on those four, then we've got a separate thread and a discussion). ;)

There are good things here and the bad, the times that bad things outweigh the good, some of us share those times here. Its the way things are. We complain more than we celebrate. Human nature (or whatever the hell you wanna call it).

One good thing here that I wanna mention about here (having lived in Dubai) is that at least I can complain about this country and not have to worry about freaking getting arrested (but its the same in Europe, so there you go).
