I meant close to $1000 USD. I still can't wrap my head around writing monetary figures here. haha So, yes...maintenance is cheaper it seems. I wish this would have happened a few years back. I think there were units like mine available for around $200USD. I've contacted someone that works for the company as suggested above and turns out that's who those next door used (their dueño was in the hall yesterday so I was able to shake him down and ask). So, hoping nothing too disastrous and can be a maintenance issue rather than a 'buy a whole new unit' issue. Thanks again for your replies/help.

3500W non-inverter air conditioners can be found for about 500k Pesos, inverter units (more efficient) cost more (about 900k Pesos for 5500 W). Hisense is said to be as good as any other brand, most of which are manufactured in TDF anyway.
