So just back from visiting the big Coto in congreso.

We were a bit hungry so headed up to the cafeteria which used to be pretty cheap.

Its never been the greatest of places and today it looked even more of a ghost town than previous. Even more of the "outlets" have vanished and lie dormant.
The cafeteria itself was very busy with what i would describe as working class people. Definitely not rich people.

This place is self service and the food often needs reheated in their microwaves... again self service.

i had 2 chorizos, 1 morcilla, papas al crema and a large coke. My wife had papa's al horno and a water. We also shared some queso and batata.
Total: $100.20
Absolutely mental prices, Sr Coto must be making decent money on his supermarkets and yet he puts no money into the tills that are often broken, the roof that leaks everywhere as they have buckets all over the place and sourcing a wide range of products.

If you are talking about the COTO in the Spinetto shopping center, I agree with you. I used to go there every now and then. Since there is not much to do around Congreso on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in the summer, I would just walk around in there sometimes. The upper level where the food court reminds me of New York in the 1980s when a lot of the big department stores went out of business, B Altmans, Gimbels, Korvettes, Orbachs, Caldor, Jamesway, etc. Very sparse in terms of merchandise and in the past few months most of the shops up there have gone out of business. The food court at one time a couple of years ago was okay for an informal meal, but the last time I ate there about 6 months ago, everything was bad, from the potatoes, to the salad and the meat was very average, nothing like it used to be. And you can't eat there for less than around $50 per person, so for that money I can go to a tenedor libre chino and stuff my face.
