A few friends and I are planning a visa run to Uruguay in the next few days and I was wondering if anyone has gone to Uruguay out of Tigre.

If so, where in Uruguay did you go? How much did it cost round trip and how long was the trip?

From what I understand, it is cheaper out of Tigre. I'm hoping that someone here can confirm that for me.

Yeah, Cacciola (www.cacciolaviajes.com) out of Tigre is much cheaper than buquebus, but not necessarily cheaper than colonia express (they sell tickets one way for as little as $28 pesos sometimes)...

You buy the ticket in B.A., then they'll pick you up on a bus (for free) from several locations in B.A. I caught the bus at like 6am or something on Santa Fe, and it took about 20 min. to get to Tigre.

Spent the day taking a tour at Bodega Irurtia (www.irurtia.com.uy), which was great. The tour guide was super nice, and you can buy awesome fresh goat cheese there too... Not much to do in Carmelo itself though. Had lunch in town afterward and then got back on the boat to come back.

The customs people in Tigre are a bit more pushy than the ones in B.A. They hassled my friend who had been here in 2007, but who had been back in the states for 2 years! And they have a ton of drug sniffing dogs there, which I haven't seen in B.A. or Colonia...

Colonia Express is definitely the cheapest. After researching the same thing this past week we got two return tickets with Colonia Express from the web for 230 pesos. If you book ahead early enough you could get a return for under 60 pesos. Quicker than going to Tigre as well.
