At risk of pissing off the brazilian expats of the board, my sincerest apologies, i'd say that the pic reminds me more of their own gauchos.
The hat is closer to a mexican one but the brazilian leather one i'm familiar with has sort of a broidered rim.
For those who are not aware of it, southern Brazil is also proud of the gaucho traditions.

And what about those pizzaiolo pervert moustaches? LOL
