An issue of grave importance...
Does anyone know anywhere to buy decent tomato juice?

The nearest I can find are horrible tiny juice box cartons that taste like diluted ketchup.

I'm craving a decent Bloody Mary....

I also have only found the small boxes of tomato juice.

Try adding more vodka.

By the third one you won't care.

So I see this thread is 16 years old, but still! I'm a tomato juice lover and have been frustrated at the lack of tomato juice, don't Argentines drink it? I finally found V8 at Disco for $10,800 A CAN!!!!!!!!! that's $9.47 USA a can! I just looked on Amazon and they have the same thing at 56 cents a can. Checking mercado libre I see I can but it for $4,949 a can, only which gets it down to $4.34 USA a can. I've tried the Britvic in the little bottles, but even that is outrageously expensive and is "just" tomato juice, no real spices in it. I tried pureeing tomato salsa in a blender, but it just didn't satisfy. Maybe I need a juicer? I see a tomato juice "Zonia" that is about $6.57 USA for 910 ml. Has anyone tried that? Or have a good recommendation on a tomato juice that has some spices mixed in like V8?

I don’t see why using a blender and then straining the pulp wouldn’t work. Is it the taste? I’ve read that breaking up the seeds would make the end product more bitter, though as @steveinbsas notes above, that’s probably solvable with more vodka. Lots of things are solvable with more vodka. Sodium bicarbonate is supposed to be a fix for overly bitter tomato juice, and it counts as salt too.

Tomatoes for sauce are really cheap now, 2kg for 1000 Pesos, I’d go that way rather than splash out on Britvic, Clamato, V8 or whatever. I never tried tomatoes in a juicer, if I can find all the pieces (it’s a slow juicer), I’ll try it and report back.

I ended up buying "Jugo De Tomate Zonia" I bought 5 to get the free delivery. It hooked me in by stating "formulation specifically designed for use in cocktails." I'm happy with the quality, it's just tomato juice, not spiced like V8 so I put in some dashes of hot sauce to give it a little zip. At my last exchange rate of 1140 pesos it ended up being $6.58 USA for 910 ml. I'm a happy camper now!

After reading this I enteted these the words "Stephen Gundry tomato" in a YouTube search and found the video that I wanted to share:

PS: Mexicans I have known also remove the peel and the seeds when cooking or even preparing salsa. Also, tomate triturado sold in Argentina usually contains the seeds and the peel. It's more than a matter of taste as far as I'm concerned, but I am not here to tell others what to eat or drink (or not) including tomato juice and vodka, both of which I have avoided for decades, after having consumed more than my share (especially vodka) by the age of forty (thirty-five years ago).

Thanks for the video Steve, very handy to learn how to peel a tomato easily and interesting about the lycopene. I always wondered when recipes said to peel the tomato, I was always like "why bother?" I'm a morning tomato juice drinker, so no vodka for me, but I do like it a little it zippy so I like my tabasco splashes. I'm happy with the "Jugo De Tomate Zonia" brand purchase.

I saw this at Disco today and couldn't help but remember this thread:

Awesome, thanks so much, I did see the Cambell's in a soda pop can size but not the 1.36 liter one at my local Disco on Rodriguez Peña in Recoleta. The Zonia tomato juice is still a little cheaper and I can get 6 bottles of it from Mercado Libre at a time with free delivery. I also discovered a bloody mary mix which is nice to mix in to give it more of a V8 zip. Thanks for the update, I'll check my local Disco and see if they have it. WOW, I just noticed the price at your Disco was $35,650 and Mercdo Libre has it for only $18,431! Good to shop around with imported items!

Works out about $2.5 per bottle of 200ml (if you are not going to consume 900ml of Bloody Mary in a day and always want some on hand… maybe a good alternative!)
