I'm not from the US but I will have the pleasure of visiting it in October. As I am a non-resident anywhere I am confused as to what possible travel insurance I can purchase. I am frightened by the prospect of being in the US uninsured.

Speculation is always welcome however should anyone have deeper knowledge of this issue, I will gladly take the advice.

Depending where you are you could get American Express Assistance, Europe Assistance, AssisCard, etc.

Back in the Middle Ages, I used to work as night operator for some of these Cards (they shared the same hub in BA).

If you have a CC, you should contact them and see what is their preferred provider. As I remember, most of these travelers insurance companies were somehow linked to the CC. Either offering them as part of their services (AMEX did that and provided you for one year coverage starting when you subscribed it with automatic yearly renewal unless you called them and ttold them to shut it down. Since the amount was small it went sometimes unnoticed for years and you weren't even aware of it.

Now I remember, the other company was named Universal Assistance.

Take your pick, can't really recommend one or another, but if I had AMEX I would start with them. Otherwise:

World nomads in the past have been much cheaper than assist card

Do you have Canadian health insurance? What is your insurance here? I know OSDE provides some coverage in the US.

I don't have health insurance in Canada as it has been over a decade since I was there. I don't have insurance here... yet.
