Travelers will now need to show proof of health insurance to enter Argentina

What a ridiculous comment... Schengen countries require this throughout Europe... Thailand, most of the middle east, dozens of others...just takes a little work to find this out, lol
I hold a US and UK PP and enter Schengen several times a year as a tourist and there is no insurance mandate. It's only needed for trevellers from non-visa exempt countries who need a Schengen visa, or for long term resident visas. Argentina is only one of a few countries globally to have a universal insurance mandate for ALL travellers. There's nothing ridiculous about by comment.

IAWTP and will continue to AWTP until 12th October this year when the new entry requirements to the EU for people from third countries start to be implemented. Some people say that possession of an EHIC (now GHIC) will be sufficient to meet the new European health requirement but to the best of my knowledge, this has not yet been confirmed officially. I have a trip to the Netherlands commencing November so I have a vested interest in finding out.

I'm interested in this EHIC / GHIC thing, since I got charged EUR 300 or so for a hospital visit in Spain last year.

You returned from where and what is your residency status here?
I am a tourist and nothing was asked.....i have insurance in the US and a basic travel insurance. They would have no idea the difference and did not even care. Maybe one day they will but I am sure they want tourist dollars more than anything

Cover is still available in the UK for people from the EU and the new UK GHIC card is recognised for UK residents visiting the EU - see further down the Wikipedia article. If you are still eligble for health care in your home country and can get an EHIC card to prove it then you are good to go.
