We are living abroad but will return to Argentina for a short holiday. While we are there our son who has a local DNI will turn 5. It says on the migracciones website the update can be done anytime between 5 & 8 but will they let him leave the country without having done the DNI update?

I did call the local embassy but couldn't get through to a person.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

As I understand it, your son's DNI will be still valid till he is 8 years old. There should be a printed due date indicating the validity of the ID.
After that you will have one year to update it, but won't be able to leave the country, until you do that. And a fine may applied.

Perhaps you can consult by mail at:
http://www.buenosaires.gob.ar/tramites/dni-actualizacion-de-menor-5-8-anos
(send me a PM if you need help writing them is spanish)

Anyway, I think you can renew his DNI in 24hs paying 350 AR$:

Hope it helps

Thanks diegoro, that was the worry, that if it has to be updated after 5 and he turns 5 he can't leave the country. I will check the date in it and also those links. Much appreciated!
