Need help in renewing my US passport. Last time was a piece of cake. Photographs done in the park across from the embassy. Short wait inside the bldg. Done and chau. Now I'm told I need to contact American Services (ACS) navigator to get things rolling. Tried this with no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

I remembered the @Rich One post, and looked up the latest instructions at the embassy website. I sent my passport last week, and now waiting for DHL to tell me when to come into their office to retrieve the new one. You can drop it off at the embassy, though need to include a prepaid DHL waybill so they can send the renewed passport. Your local DHL office knows exactly what is required and will help you. Print the DS-82 form, bring the photo, and pay the renewal fee online before dropping off or sending.

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship: U.S. Passport.
  • Photo: One (1) 5 cm x 5 cm passport photograph .
  • Social Security Number: If you do not have a Social Security Number submit a statement, signed and dated, that includes the phrase, “I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the following is true and correct: I have never been issued a Social Security number by the Social Security Administration.”
  • Passport fee: Use this link  to pay USD130 application fee. Insert  Argentina as “renewal location”.
  • Payment receipt: Submit the copy of the payment confirmation.
  • DHL waybill. Passports are delivered via DHL only. Please do not send Correo Argentino stamps. (DHL stores)

Thank you soooo much, Carride! Any even moderately intellegent person having your expaination would understand exactly what to do, but I'm an idiot. Do you know if I can simply go to any DHL office, passport in hand, explain what I need and they'll know the process?

And bring the DS-82 form and money, of course.

No.
You must follow the detailed above instructions from the embassy website. In brief, that means:
1. Using the link shown in step one, fill out the web form questionnaire that at the end will have finally save a Form DS-82 (with your info) as PDF on your computer or phone. Or print it at your home. CANNOT handwrite on the form, except the signature.
2. Pay the $130 passport fee using the link shown. Save the email confirmation they send you. Or print it at your home.
3. Go to the passport photo store. Get a photo. Also ask them to print your DS-82 PDF that you saved, and ask them to print the payment confirmation. They must have an email address that you can email those two things. If not, go to a print shop or kiosko that they might recommend. STAPLE the photo on the form where instructed. Sign the form.

Then, bring those things to DHL and they should help you, but make sure they send everything mentioned. You will pay them twice, once for sending and once for the later receiving waybill.

Again, thanks! But the PDF, the not handwritten, etc. is beyond me. Do you happen to know someone I can pay to walk me through this?

place an advertisement here in the forums? It could even be done over the phone with someone you trust in USA, and have that person email you the finished PDF.
Go to the Tuesday Coffee Chat that is discussed here every week. Advertise on Craigslist for an hour of basic computer instruction, and then steer the direction to this need first. Go to your local library? A meetup dot com group for lanuguge chat? Sounds like a friendly instructor or group class of basic computer literacy would be helpful for your long term, and where you find someone to help with this first requirement.

Thanks. I really apreciate your help.

Comments;
You must fill the Form DS-82 online with the link provided by the Embassy. If you don't own a printer must go to a locutorio and ask them to print your DS-82 form saved in PDF format.

If the locutorio can't read the saved the PDF DS-82 form. Fill in the form again using a computer at the locutorio and print it there.

Add a copy of the signed DS-82 form
Add a copy of the $130 fee paid online
Add a passport size pic
Add the waybill for the DHL payment sending/return forwarding

Submit the above documents at window 1 at the US Embassy
