Hello,

I have a question for those who have Argentine cc. We are traveling back to the US in Sept and are wondering, is it better to make purchases there with cards from here? From our math, if we are putting money in our account here to pay our bills at the blue rate (or close), if we use the Argentine card, even with the tax, it would be ~15% less than the full price in dollars using our US card.

Does anyone have experience with that?

Thanks,

Kim

Yes you can if the vendor will accept foreign debit or credit cards. It's a nice discount.

I think credit card purchases are converted at the rate at the end of the month so you have to be careful there. Debit cards are converted at the moment of the purchase.

It works in the UK. Contactless payments too. In the event that verification may be needed at the point of sale, the card may sometimes present as Chip and Signature rather than Chip and Pin. This can confuse checkout staff who may not be used to this but if you see paper printed in Spanish spooling out of the machine you will know what to expect.
