Hola, fellow expatriates!

Does anyone know where I can buy paint for my apartment, which can be washed afterwards?

Any paint store in your neighborhood will carry washable paint. Ask for SATINADO. I bought the brand LOXON when I had my apartment painted in 2006. I wash the wall with a damp cloth.

Tell the salesclerk how you'll use the paint and the size of the apartment. They'll tell you how much to buy, along with rollers, brushes, etc.

Thanks, jantago!

I haven't been to a paint store yet, but the rollers and brushes I saw at Walmart and at COTO were really shitty. I hope the paint store has better ones.

You can get Sherwin Williams paint here. They have a beautiful semigloss kind of option in their colors. Pricey but clean up well and look beautiful.

Washable ? You are talking about latex paint ?
Most paints in Argentina is oil based, which is not washable by water, but washable by paint thinner.
What you are looking is latex paint I think. In US, there are gloss/semi-gloss latex paint, which is called Satinado here.
Also there is flat paint, which does not have gloss in it.

A glossy paint will make any imperfections show up a lot. But, a satinado latex paint is soooooo easy to clean with a damp cloth. I have painted my, very imperfect, cement walls with this paint because grubby little toddler fingers will always win otherwise. I can live with it not being perfectly smooth.

the brushes and rollers are of poor quality but will work. I especially like the brushes..whoa. brought my own from the US. low sheen paint is what I am used to for the reason mentioned above. got my low sheen latex finish by mixing the flat paint with the semi gloss. satinado may be close. my unit was painted in 2006 and still looks good.

one last note. its best to use semi gloss on doors and door frames. the low sheen will still work well in kitchens and bathrooms as well as the standard walls through out. good luck.

Alba Pinturerias is also good.

Pinturerias Yanina has nice staff, willing to help.

Rex Pinturerias - every time I've been there I have come to the conclusion that their employees are depressed.

Wooden doors, door frames and wooden closet doors I had them painted with esmalte sintetico.

Mate paint is a bit cheaper and satinado is more expensive and needs to be applied more times, but looks better.
