I'd like to have a Jacaranda, I've always loved them, I don't really want to plant it as a seedling though and wait god knows how many years.

Are there any viveros that sell mature trees or any rescues for mature trees that are to be removed? On mercadolibre there are a few selling some 2m tall sticks but nothing bigger than that.

Joe are you implying that I go to Once and buy some yellow shirts, while ordering a stencil with the letters GCBA and some traffic cones from mercadolibre, before renting a flat bed truck with a crane?

..because that certainly hadn't occurred to me....

No ... Microcentro.

....

Besides we all know that exchanging dollars and pesos is illegal and yet everyone does it - how is this different? Besides its the perfect size for your back yard.

There is a jacaranda tree stump at the northeast corner of Chile and Pichincha. The tree had to be cut down before it fell and caused damage or injury. Across the street is another one whose fate is yet undetermined. A sports club is under construction and a main branch of a jacaranda is inside a section of the building. I'm eagerly waiting to see if the tree is saved or trimmed.

Springtime in my neighborhood won't be the same without the glorious jacarandas blooming every November.

The default option seems to be hacking the tree down. Measured pruning is almost unheard of. In our part of the Botánico, many of the sycamores have dangerously weak branches that are likely to fall onto cars or people in a storm.
