Where To Buy Good Designer Shirts In Ba

Ceviche as caitij said, for Diesel there is a store at Patio Bullrich.

Zara is basically in all the shopping centres (inc Alto Palermo) but its not really that swanky here so not sure you will find what you after. The girls stuff isnt too bad but I think the guys stuff isnt much to write home about, has some okay casual business shirts and some suit jackets but IMO not much else.

In fact, Liguria which is just across from Diesel in Patio has nice stuff, it doesnt come cheap but if your not worried it could be an option.

Gap is not officially imported into Argentina.

They just opened a store in Montevideo in Punta Carretas shopping. You can also find their stuff on the Neutral duty free shops on the border with Brazil.

Go check out Diesel in Patio Bullrich in Recoleta. My boyfriend works there and im sure he could help you find some stuff!

Their are two diesel stores. One in Bullrich and one in Viejo..which one is better stocked for men?

If they paid as little as they pay in China, or the other places where "competitive" priced stuff is made, they could do it. Dollar a day, anyone?
Companies like Diesel, or Zara, or Gap are taking advantage of the workers who make the shirts, big time. Often the wholesale cost of a shirt like this, at, say, the Gap, is one or two dollars, including the fabric- which means a few pennies for labor. Argentine clothing is made by people who are paid far more.

Its the same reasoning behind the American Apparel T Shirts (made in the USA) costing $22 each, while a T shirt at Walmart can be five bucks.
How long will it take the USA to produce good quality clothing at competitive prices?

I recently saw a program about a factory in the UK that makes cushion covers as well as other stuff.
They were basically moving their work back to the UK as the wages in China had grown to the point that with shipping they could just as easily make the products cheaper in the UK.
The UK factory was always more productive than in China as the workers in China tended to only stay for 1 "season" then move on to another factory, always looking for the factories paying the most money.

Modern machinery and well trained staff can go a long way to make a company competitive.

I was amazed at the prices in Primark and was sure they must be using slave labour but they have a code of conduct for all their suppliers.

Which seems to be pretty reasonable. I wonder if there are any suppliers for Primark in Argentina.

So why if they are paid so much more is the quality of the clothing worse than that made overseas, including China. I have tried a few Argentinian made brands - Mistral, Cultura and a variety of underwear/socks brands that are charging the same price of products made in the USA using your example - yet the quality and durability is no where near as good? The quality of stitching is the first obvious give away. They are charging MORE than the stuff made in China and even then it can't match the quality based on my experience. If you can recommend me some Argentinian brands that actually produce good quality clothes at decent prices I will happily buy them.

I have never bought any of the brands you mention.
I do wear Hermanos Estebecorena underwear, and its quite good quality, and competitively priced with the equivalent stuff in the US. The brand of briefs I like in the USA is twelve bucks a pair, HE is 70 pesos.
I have a couple pairs I have been wearing for about 3 years now.

Same thing with their leather- its cheaper than US brands that it compares to, and is very high quality. I have a vest I bought over 3 years ago, for about half what a designer leather vest would cost at American Rag on La Brea in LA. I wear the hell out of it, its still like new, and looks great.

But- "decent prices"- thats completely relative.
If you mean chinese/pakistani/costa rica prices, then, no, probably not.
If you mean, what comparable stuff costs in the US, sure.
I buy Argentine tank tops (musculosos) for about 60 pesos. They are better than the three for ten bucks versions at walmart, better AND cheaper than American Apparel. cant remember the brand, but its local and good.

Anyway, the subject was dress shirts. I bought both my teenage kids Balthazar shirts, on sale, years ago. They still look good, and are quite stylish. Not cheap, though.

We all understand that the main problem with prices in Argentina is the protectionist high import taxes. If those were gone, you could buy the same cheap chinese crap you can anywhere else. But they exist.

There is a huge amount of cheaply made crap here, don't fool yourselves. ;) The prices just aren't cheap.

Ojo on buying Zara. It is NOT high quality and it will fall apart. Not cheap but very cheaply made.

You want a well made shirt? I would suggest finding a tailor and getting them made custom.

I've done that and it actually worked out pretty well, I paid 180 in labor per shirt and had to supply my own fabric (cost more than the labor) .

But fwiw I don't think ceviche is talking about dress shirts.

For TShirts Ona Saez has fairly good quality, but they fit small (ie you'll have to go up at least one size from your usual). Also, Bolivia in Palermo -- on THames at about Costa Rica, has some very nice men's things.

(From post I interpreted t-shirts because of brands mentioned... but the above will also have button downs, otherwise for dress shirts off the rack try Etiqueta Negra, Felix, Giesso, Key Biscayne. If you want to hit a mall, forget Alto Palermo, for higher end go to Paseo Alcorta they have all above brands less Key Biscayne I believe. )
