Where to go for a week in Jan close to BA?

Yes it’ll be our 3rd time there we reallly like it.
Decided we weren’t going this year due to cost but changed our minds!

I appreciate the info and recs. We have been to Tandil (nice, but we’ve seen it), Carlos Paz and all of the locales in Patagonia. We seriously considered Brazil, but the price of flights and the fact that it’s packed right now just doesn’t make it worth it for 5-7 days. I’d be tempted by La Paloma, but again, the crowds. We spent a Christmas 15 years ago near Maldonado and Piriapolis. I don’t remember much about it, since we were with friends with a pool. Anything inland from Colonia? We would like to stay away from needing to fly or rent a car. Indeed, it could be an impossible dream, but here’s to still hoping.
Pinamar prices are insane. For anyone tempted, I would look elsewhere. We’ve been coming here for more than 20 years, but we’ll take a break from it in the future.
Carmelo Uy .....

We are in Carilo now and have been here all week. The center was the most crowded I have ever seen it last night, but no one was buying anything. We went to Aqua & Farina for pizza, which used to be delicious, but now is just okay. Perico in Valeria is much better. We like Paxapoga but are trying to eat more casual this time around. We hear good things about A Mano. Enjoy your time here and bring some sunshine with you and fend off the wind!

It seems the perfect place I’m looking for doesn’t exist!?

Forecast says it’s improving next week!?
I’ve been lucky and never had bad weather in the 3 times I’ve been to Carilo and the time we went to Pinamar!

We usually don’t eat out when we go just full asado 😀

I’m looking seriously into Carmelo. Can we pull it off without a car? Thinking maybe we take the ferry from Tigre. How many days would be ideal, and make it worth the trip! Sounds like there’s much to do, like enjoy the river, the hiking and the wineries, but I’m unclear if it’s pretty car dependent. Also, would we want to stay in town or elsewhere?
Many thanks.

Yes, you can just about pull it off without a car, we did in the blazing hot summer of 2022, taking the Buquebus ferry from Tigre (not a short trip). We stayed in the Carmelo Resort and Spa, things to do there are the enormous pool, river beaches, and vineyard excursions. I don’t think there are a lot of options to stay or eat but for a few days it’s very nice indeed.

Inland from Colonia can be fiendishly hot. Better stay near the coast.

No matter where you go everything is packed in January, when Argentines flee town in a frenzied pack, much like lemmings.

February is much calmer, and cheaper as well.

I'm not sure about Tigre, but when you get to Colonia by ferry, right next to the ferry terminal you will find the bus terminal, which I am pretty sure has a bus that can take you to Carmelo. Find out which are the buses that leave from that terminal. Let us know because it may be an interesting choice. Although, I find it much more breezy to be at the Uruguayan beaches during the sticky summer. Colonia has the same weather as Buenos Aires, and Carmelo will be warmer.

Went to Florianopolis in December, was amazing. Got a good deal on flights on expedia, way cheaper than anywhere else. Campeche was my favourite spot in Florianopolis and yep Brazil was cheap.

Funny, because our original plan was to go to Florianópolis. Flights were crazy expensive. Unfortunately, we can only go away that week in January. Still organizing options for Carmelo, although now it looks like it will be insanely hot. So it goes!
