The British Position
    • De Facto Administration: The UK has administered the islands almost continuously since 1833.
    • Self-Determination: In a 2013 referendum, 99.8% of Falkland Islanders voted to remain a British Overseas Territory.
    • First Landing: The first recorded landing on the islands was made by an English captain, John Strong, in 1690.
The Argentine Position
    • Historical Succession: Argentina claims it inherited the islands (which it calls Islas Malvinas) from Spain following its independence in the 19th century.
    • Dispossession: Argentina maintains that the UK forcefully removed Argentine authorities and occupied the territory in 1833.
    • Geographical Proximity: The islands lie on the continental shelf of South America, roughly 500 km east of the Argentine mainland

Is Milei desperate enough to start yet another stupid war? Or is he just trying to gain more popular support by making the right noises? A peaceful resolution of this issue is the best outcome for the people of Argentina.
