Why Not To Buy Local!

Well I am not ashamed to admit that my husband and I are trash rummagers. Our kids' favourite toy right now is some gigantic polystyrene blocks that are really protective packaging thrown out by the company across the road. We collect old computer parts from the street too.

Not above it either! And although it's not the same as directly going through the trash myself, we have picked up some real gems from the guy that lives on a lot across from our house, a squatter, well he rummages up some interesting things! We've gotten a brass plated side table that's at least 100 years old from him...a claw foot tub....lamps etc...really cleaned up. The other day he had out some Macri sign redirecting traffic, "this road closed for the next 100 meters"...I almost bought it to use to help us get parking spots hahaha but I refrained.

Yeah, I've noticed that waste Styrofoam is somewhat plentiful here. I've got some laying around, mostly left over from when I made my roof using the typical local beam and foam block system. I've been brewing in my mind a system of making countertops and benches and similar stuff using ferrocement with a "hollow" core of pieces of styrofoam, and steel reinforced channels in between, with a skin of wire mesh and concrete on the outside. It's much inspired by the work of this guy:

Seems most of the materials to play around with this type of project are readily available and free/cheap.

jaja - I have a similar supplier nearby. Of course, nerd that I am, I'm buying old printers, power supplies, and for a bit I was looking at doing a project on recycled bottles, though that is on hold for the moment.
