Wire dollars or use WU to send pesos?

There is always a trail. It's tied to ID/ bank account. But that's not really a big deal, and depending on which visa you're on it's already known you need to transfer a minimum every month.

But in terms of conversion rates.
WU equivalent in Canadian of $1000 USD would offer you 1468 ARS right now. On Balanz, $1000 USD offers 1539 and then subtract 1%, so effectively 1524. So about 4% more. That might be an artifact of CAD/ARS vs USD/ARS but from others I know the Balanz/broker values worked out pretty well historically. It may also be due to it being a weekend.

I don't like carrying, storing and dealing with cash. So doing a couple transfers/steps on the phone or computer is acceptable to me.

thanks gkcanela, i am still debating sending dollars directly to my santander acc. yesterday i compared using westernunion. and rate of exchange was better with western union but adding on their fee of 50 dollars made santander more appealing. my bank in US is a credit union and does not have SWIFT, so i would need to transfer funds first to WISE then to santander. now i find there is fee at santander...i am leaning to just continuing with western union.

As far as I can see Santander only has zero fees on their Cuenta Sueldo, for which you need an Argue salary, the other accounts charge $11 maintenance fee
Can the maintenance fee be waved in the other accounts if you maintain a monthly average balance of 350,000 pesos?

I'll have to check that out. Supervielle has free transfers and no maintenance fee, but I opened the account in their app and have been stuck in limbo unable to open a cuenta de ahorras, with system errors. They have been trying to fix it for 4 weeks. So I can't recommend them.
