Withdrawing USD in Montevideo

I'm going to Uruguay for the first time in a week... anyone know if it is getting harder to get dollars in Uruguay too? Can you withdraw them from any ATM? How much is safe to take on the Buquebus? Thanks for any advice.

Easier to get dollars, can withdraw up to $200 dollars from any ATM. Buquebus is plenty safe to carry money, I wouldn't go to sleep just to be safe if you're carrying large quantities of cash. You can bring back up to $10k USD without declaring it.

Do you go straight to Montevideo or stop in Colonia?
Tell us how you get on... maybe Colonia could be a good option for visa/dollar-run combo???

Colonia is Uruguay... it has always been "common' to go to Colonia to get cash : many argentines have an account there, in dollars.....
