Atm Withdrawals, Schwab Cards And The New Exchange Rate...

Back around a year ago my Schwab card had the same problems in Peru. It choked on the airport ATMs from what I remember and I heard the same thing when calling, too many attempts. Other than that though... I've heard plenty of people say they don't always catch the ATM refunds, but I check...

Has Anyone Had A Bank Account Closed Due To Facta

The reason a lot of dual citizens end up getting identified as U.S. citizens is that it's not just a matter of which passport you present. The FATCA compliance procedures require banks to search through the data they already have, and examine new account applicants, for what are called "indicia...

Who Feels Like A Coffee Chat This Week

This is only going to happen if someone actually plans it... All right. On Sunday October 11 at 2:00PM I'm going to be at the Starbucks on Scalabrini Ortiz and Cabello. I know there are much better coffee shops out there but this is easy to find and reasonably close to a subte stop. If someone...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

Epilogue: Friday night I went to Instituto Argentino de somethingorother. Chek-in would have been quick and easy but the lady had apparently never seen a self-pay patient before and had to ask a few people what to do, then passed me to someone else. The price of the procedure magically went up...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

Well, I found the 2,000 peso option. And it's no better than what I had before. Friday I went to the Instituto Argentino de Diagnostico y Tratamiento like I said I would, because their website says they do EKGs without a turno. Go to the receptionist, hand her my receta. No, she says, you need...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

All right, so what's your suggestion for non-emergency care then? The 540 pesos I paid for a consult is practically nothing compared to what it would cost to see a doctor in America, and my insurance will easily cover something more expensive... is there somewhere I could go where the consult is...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

I've got insurance back home that covers me 100% here (and elsewhere in the world) upon submission of receipts so at the moment there's no benefit in getting insurance here. I also figure places would provide faster/better service for cash as opposed to an insurance payment.

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

Yeah I've done one of those full-day checks before, back in May actually. They're useful when everything's fine and you just want to make sure nothing's creeping up on you. Emergency appointment with a cardiologist makes sense; I'll try Dr. Caferatta if I don't get any love out of Instituto...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

I don't know if this is the same thing, but Instituto Argentina de Diagnostico y Tratamiento's website says they can do the EKG without a turno. I'll try walking in tomorrow...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

Just went to Hospital Aleman. Wasn't impressed. Spent around 50 minutes waiting (not all that bad considering it's a walk-in), got a short appointment with someone who I think wasn't a full doctor. After examining me she gave me an order for an electrocardiogram and told me to call for an...

    Need A Doctor In Palermo

I did some searching and couldn't find any good recent posts on this... I'm looking for a general practitioner doctor. Expensive is fine, and I'll pay cash. Just want someone who can see me promptly without my having to wait in the waiting room forever, can take their time with me, and knows...

Getting A Tourist Visa For Someone Who Actually Needs A Visa

Okay, so the letter of invitation is an either/or with the rest of it? The website seemed to indicate everything was needed. Everything you mentioned is doable except money in the bank, a credit card, and property/kids/husband. I suppose I could give her some cash to put in the bank (and then...

Getting A Tourist Visa For Someone Who Actually Needs A Visa

So I'm here as a tourist and I want to bring in my ex-girlfriend so that she can see what the country is like and look for jobs and/or a graduate degree at a university. She holds a Cuban passport so she needs a visa to come here, even as a regular 90-day tourist. (Cubans need visas to go...

    Thoughts About Cordoba

If I end up going back to live in Cordoba, what's the "right setup" I should make for myself?
