I'm in BA right now and gonna try it and report back so we can get some data points...
--since now the official rate is much closer to the MEP rate, it's not too bad a rate if it doesn't work.
Yeah I understand that. My example like emirates (Dubai owned) uses Argentina’s payment processor when the country is switched to Argentina. It all depends on the airline if they uses it or not.
Seems like mastercard is charging the mep rate and not the official rate, so I'm guessing no rebate anymore?
It would be good considering the crazy spikes made the exchange crappy sometimes when the rebate hits a few days later.
edit- misread your post, but yes you can purchase things abroad (without VPN, depending on the site) and it will work... as long as it's processed in argentine pesos and in argentina
Last time I used a visa (last month) the pending charge was the official rate until it gets posted at the MEP rate, there is no refund, only for mastercard (and Amex) it does that. Am I missing something?
So today I checked the Amex card and I did indeed got a refund.
It is labeled as New Merchant, about 43% of the original charge back ($107.11).
Took 9 days to process though.
For Master Card, as long as the charge is in ARS and charged with a merchant processor within Argentina, it will get the MEP rate I think.
Did your Capital One purchase detail have something like CAPITAL FEDER, 001 C1205BCA ARG?
JetSmart and Aerolineas you just need to select Argentina and it...
