    Railway System Neglected In Argentina

Generally trains seem to work well in densely populated countries only - you need to reach a certain number of potential passengers per km railway. For countries like Argentina Buses (resp. trucks on the cargo side) are the much better options since the roads are already there... In Europe high...

Retirees In Costa Atlantica, Uruguay, And South Brazil

Speaking about Mar del Plata, i can not confirm a large number of retirees visiting during low season. It is rather a very large number of permanent residing retirees plus a considerable amount of elderly people coming to spent an extended summer. During high season, when it is generally...

Do Aerolineas Ask For Return Flight When Boarding Flight?

I have been entering Argentina dozens of times with One-way flights or Return flights with Bs.As. as the final destination - not even got questioned once by Migraciones (entering on tourist visa). Got asked by airlines a few times though to provide proof of onward travel, ususally just needed to...

Trip To New York: Afip Says $130 Usd Will Do

How long does this afip tramite actually take and how long would one wait for final approval? Trying to make my arg gf go to get some eur/usd approved for a 3-week trip to europe, but she's somewhat reluctant to spent an entire day at the afip offices... Any recent experience (first/second hand)...

What to do about construction next door?

I am in a similar situation with a building being constructed on the adjacent lot. Even though there will remain a gap between the buildings, pictures were taken inside our apartment in the presence of an escribano. It was explained that this was common procedure to collect evidence for -rather...

    Hit and run

Sorry for your loss, Citygirl. Probably the guy just did not get you getting upset about it. Most likely he just thought 'wtf, who needs sideview mirrors anyways..?' ;-) Unfortunately this is very common. Happened to me as well already a couple of times - not only in Argentina....

    Igauzu

Via Bariloche has been a great experience for me in former times - nevertheless, since one of the owners got killed in an accident - ironically involving one of his own buses - last year (http://tn.com.ar/sociedad/00076891/el-dueno-de-via-bariloche-murio-al-chocar-contra-un-micro-de-su-empresa)...

Getting deposits back on temporary rental

Don't hand over the keys unless you get the deposit - it's fairly simple. It helps to do the swap inside the apartment and it's great if you have someone with you (perhaps a friend helping you to move). If the landlord can't provide the deposit on hand, say you will wait for him inside the...

    Use dollars or ATMs ?

Yes, you will get similar rates in the provinces as well (not sure about the gloing rates in Salta, but in BA Province you'll get 0.1 below the rate on ambito). Good cuevas are fewer and harder to find, though - help of local friends/relatives might be needed. In my experience, dollars in any...

    Regulation on Fire Prevention/Protection

Thanks for sharing! We have not held any meeting so far, since most of the owners are seldomly present. All deficiencies and maintenance matters are usually dealt with by the administration, eventually. Hence my first step would be to get to them directly. I will be leaving soon for a couple of...

    Regulation on Fire Prevention/Protection

Hello, did anyone of you on here make some experience with Argentine regulations on fire protection/fire prevention in apartment buildings? I have bought a new apartment in Mar del Plata about a year ago. While the construction was not 100% completed at this time I was not too much...

What crimes have you been a victim of in BA?

I have never been a victim of crime in Argentina - staying here 4-6 months/year since eight years! Recall a very few attempted pickpockets, though. The only time I have been assaulted in SA was on a daytrip to the - supposedly safe - Montevideo downtown in bright daylight (did one of the most...

An ideal car to buy for use in BA

Best car to use in BA is a taxi/remis, imho. You might want to take a look at a Nissan Tiida, though http://auto.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-152231511-nissan-tiida-acenta-5p-18-16v-0km-oferta-clama-sa-_JM My inlaws are very happy with theirs and it fits your above specs...

    Dollars as a tourist

Yes, I did try to buy Reais with ATM receipts last week at EZE... it does'nt work. A comprobante from a bank or a casa de cambio was needed. I ended up changing Dollar into Peso and then with that receipt into Reais. Of course they will charge you twice... Got about 150 Reais out of 100 USD...
