    Place to stay in Santiago?

I stayed in a great little place when I went a couple months ago called the Vegas Hotel. Simple, but clean and cozy; also in a good location. Here's the link to TripAdvisor reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.es/Hotel_Review-g294305-d315720-Reviews-Hotel_Vegas-Santiago.html

    Tango Show Recommendation Please

Roxana, I just wanted to thank you for this information. I went to a tango show at Centro Cultural Borges tonight with some visitors in town, and it was phenomenal. It was well-attended by Argentines (always a good sign) and you could tell everyone, including the musicians and dancers, were...

    Spanish Tutor

I've recently decided I want/need an intensive Spanish grammar repaso, and I'm looking for a tutor. I've taken Spanish for years, so I'm looking for recommendations for tutors accustomed to teaching high-level Spanish language students. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Argentina, the black economy and living without banking

TD Bank also reimburses for ATM fees. It really is worth it to have the reimbursements, especially considering so much business is done here in cash and ATMs have withdrawal limits.

    Place to buy a gown?

I have a wedding in March for which I need to buy a long dress, (more like a gown rather than a maxi dress) and I will need to buy it here in Buenos Aires. I've looked around Alto Palermo and the Palermo boutiques a bit and have some options, but nothing I'm too crazy about. Anyone have store...

Appropriate Christmas Gifts for encargada, etc

What is the etiquette for gift-giving when it comes to encargadas and cleaning ladies? It is my first Christmas in Buenos Aires, and my roommates and I are planning to give a "bonus" to our cleaning lady, as well as a monetary gift to our encargada. What are appropriate amounts? Thanks

    Looking for a housekeeper

I live in Palermo Viejo and the most wonderful housekeeper, Ana, has been coming to my place for almost three months now. She is very reliable and thorough; she also cleans our landlord's apartment (he is the one who recommended her), and I have happily passed her information along to a number...

Uruguay Trip on the exact 90th day - advice?

I was planning to make a border hop (my first!) to Colonia this weekend for visa purposes, but I then realized the beach vacation I have planned for Uruguay in mid-December has me leaving the country on the exact 90th day of my tourist visa. This is my first run out of the country, so I'm a...

    Patagonia Itinerary

All of this advice is HUGELY appreciated! I'm still trying to figure out -- what exactly is there to do in San Martin de los Andes? Does it offer much that's different from El Bolson and Bariloche? Trying to figure out if it's worth that much bus time. Thanks a million.

    Best Cell Unlocked Cell Phone?

If you want a smartphone, bring a Blackberry. AT&T will help you unblock it (and some other services, I believe, too), just tell them you're in Argentina for "a little bit" and want to use your phone, and that you plan on using it and continuing your service when you're back home. They'll help...

    Patagonia Itinerary

Since my last travel-related post garnered such insightful feedback, I'm back for more. This time I'm looking for advice on a trip to Patagonia, probably 4-6 days, without a rental car. We're thinking Bariloche and El Bolson are definite, so I am wondering what other cities in the Lake...

    Turkey!!

We've apparently located one thanks to an Argentine friend who works at a restaurant in San Telmo. I think it's something like those connections (or others) led him to someone who is getting one to him straight from a nearby granja (farm). I will try to find out more details, but I would say...

Polo Campeonato / El Abierto Tickets

Last question: What is the mood/culture/scene like at these games? I went to a horse race last week and it was so subdued. Plus, no alcohol was served. It was a little different than what I had been expected. Does the bleacher section (or any, for that matter) get at all rowdy?
