Hoping to Make Some Female Friends

I couldn´t make it to the last one but could likely come on Friday. I have lived here for a year but have still never made it to one of these get togethers. I´m American, 24 years old, orginally from the Midwest. We could do Sugar Bar in Palermo. Drinks and pints are just 5 pesos so the price...

    Where have You Volunteered?

I am glad to hear that Kwelly is having a good experience with Voluntario Global however I know that a lot of the fee is not for the organization but rather it operates as a business. They work with tourism agencies and offer commission to sell the "volunteer packages" with the seller making...

    Where have You Volunteered?

JB - If you are under 30 years old I would highly recommend Un Techo para mi País for doing construction projects. Habitat for Humanity works mostly in Luján and earlier this year had monthly construction brigades but because of some funding problems it appears quite stalled. If you spanish is...

    Karaoke in Buenos Aires?

Does anyone know a fun place that does Karaoke regularly? Ideal place would not be exclusively tourists/expats but also offer a decent amount of songs in English. I have seen one place in front of the cemetary in Recoleta but I assume it would be expensive and full of tourists. Any...

    LSAT Books?

Try University Libraries. I study at a private university outside of Capital and I know that they have GRE, GMAT, and LSAT books for students to check out. SO, I bet you could have them photocopied. I think most private schools in Buenos Aires restrict access to their premises if you are not a...

Curtains "para riel" --Where to find them cheap

I am looking for "cortinas para riel" for my apartment. They are the old system of curtains with the little hooks that loop into the fabric folds and are then hung on a metal track. I went to Once and found places that will custom make them for me but its a bit expensive and not worth investing...

Beautifully decorated Recoleta studio for temporary rent

Note to all interested in this department -- They are charging 30% commision on top of rent -- ie 70 USD for 1 week ! This apartment is completely misrepresented as USD 250 per week! If the point of the forums is to advertise good deals among expats and give expats breaks on prices, etc then...

how easy is it to get an english language teaching job?

It is easy to find some work teaching English but difficult to live off of English teaching alone. Wages are low (18 pesos per hour - 27ish in Institutes) and you have to travel a lot to find sufficient hours. Have a solid savings built up before arriving because it will be months before you can...

    REFRIED BEANS have been found!

I have found very cheap cheddar cheese at the Coto on French and Larrea in Recoleta. Its not like a block of cheese its more like single slices (ie Kraft Singles but not that gross) and you get it at the deli area but its perfect for sandwiches/burgers etc.
