We are looking for an upscale vacation in Colombia, mostly beach as we will have a child with us. Looking for pretty beaches, a nice town with good restaurants and not throngs of tourists. Any help appreciated!

Is it all that bad? Please say it isn't!

There should be a detailed box on anyone posting love or hate for any city. Like every other reasonable city to consider living in, BA has demographics that like it more than others: LIKING BA NOW - those making foreign currencies than skew well against the dollar and can rent a nice apt...

    Salary

Some are starting to get it, and some of the new, high end Mendoza wineries, owned by Americans and Euopeans for the most part are exporting all of their wines. Today. As we that could change overnight so not many are investing big yet. However, the vast majority of wine produced in Argentina...

    matambre

As far as I know what's commonly called matambre here is Peoria. Flank steak iws called vacio and skirt steak wain entrana. So if you're talking about the popular long, thin meat covered by a thin layer of fat popular at asados, you are probably looking for pork flank. We're afraid we might have...

    Salary

There was a long thread a couple of months ago on this. Search it and add 25%. Taxis seem like NYC prices now and food just keeps going up. We eat a healthy, but not lavish diet and spend about $100 US/wk on good quality fruit and vegetables alone. Meat now seems more expensive than in the US...

    buying a hostel

Alex, if there was anything to sell, the current owner would have sold it. That could have included "good will", which would be an established reputation that hands you confirmed bookings. It could be furnishings, a long term lease in a great location..... You need a real estate advisor. Check...

Can Tourists Take Out US Dollars in Uruguay?

Is it possible for tourists to get US dollars from ATMs or their own bank accounts (Citi, HSBC) in Uruguay?

Which bank should I use for a new account?

Probably HSBC or Citi. You never want to keep much money in an AR account, and with those you can just easily transfer funds online between US and AR accounts.

Meat is not what it was

There are so many vegetable stores yet restaurants have so few on their menus. This has always been very curious to me. The quality of the vegetables, however, is usually severely lacking. Now we pretty much only order from Quinta Fresca. It's worlds apart from what we find anywhere else. Real...

    Call Centers?

Call centers are few and far between here now, and those still here won't be for long. BA has gotten too expensive.

Meat is not what it was

You just get to the point where you only go to a few places to eat steak. Ours are at home, bought from a top butcher, La Cabrara and Parilla 22.

    Expat observations 2011

I'm always amazed when people recite their list of what's more and less expensive. I often wonder when they've last been in the places they call cheaper..... Cheap apartments in BA are definitely cheaper than their equals in NYC, Toronto or SF. Even good housing is cheaper. But the delta...

    Buenos Aires or Mendoza

I think most non retirees and outdoors extreme ethusiasts would get bored in Mendoza. I would. We looked and like Mendoza a lot. But there was little to do socially and few good restaurants other than a few at wineries that are tourist oriented. Lower rents, but you definitely need a car. Good...
