Finally moving in Feb - Pilar BA - Advice on Pilar?

If you’re outgoing and positive, you’ll have a good experience. Just remember that most of the life in BA happens in the evening/night, so I would still consider living in the city for the after school life, in a northern area neighborhood like Belgrano, which is closer to Pilar.

Finally moving in Feb - Pilar BA - Advice on Pilar?

I totally agree with Iznogud. At 28, even at my age, I’d be crazy bored in Pilar. I would live in CABA and commute to school. Plus, you’ll be sort of against the commute, assuming your school hours are similar to work. No reason to move to BA only to be stuck out in the boonies.

New Year Eve Party (Gala) in Buenos Aires?

Where did you end up? I’ve had a similar experience in BA...people tend to stay at home with family and friends through midnight and then head out to bars or discos. I wondered if the Alvear, Four Seasons were mostly tourists?

    5G is coming to Argentina

5G is and will be happening in the US. There is enough data proving health risks that fire stations have successfully lobbied to keep the new antennas off of their roofs. However, individual cities are basically powerless to keep the antennas out. They are regulated by federal laws which...

    Best parrillas / steakhouses

Not impressed at all with Don Julio. The highlight was walking in past the crowds and being seated at a great table. It was downhill from there. Rushed, indifferent service. Warm wine. Average meat with no guarnición included at all. The side dishes we did order were forgettable. I much...

2 tourists shot outside Faena Hotel P. Madero

I’m equally bewildered by the reflexive defensiveness every time something like this happens in Argentina. And let’s be honest, the inside job-motochorro robbery is a very Argentine style of robbery. Yes, the US, Australia and Europe all have shocking incidents of violence, particularly the US...

    Learning Spanish in BA

I would look for an affordable and good tutor. I took some of those classes and spent most of the time waiting for the class members to show up, take coffee breaks and catch up to different levels. I learned more from Adriana Crom in 4 hours per week than I did in 20 hours of group classes...

    Uruguay for the summer

Punta in high season is crazy. Crowded, expensive, frankly awful. Luckily, the biggest madness only lasts for about a month, from post-Christmas to late January. I would escape up near Punta del Diablo and wait it out. I agree it’s a lovely spot once the hordes subside.

Return of the Cepo (Currency Clamp)

Did Argentina ever leave Peronismo in any meaningful way? Seems to me it’s the default system always waiting in the wings when it becomes clear there isn’t a quick fix to decades of corruption and mismanagement.

Watching Election Results on Live Stream

Totally get it. It’s lucky that you have the option to leave. Many people I know can’t. So where are you going?

Life Without Cold Water in BA

That sounds insane. I’m going to go ahead and ask the obvious question (I don’t see the answer in your post)...why don’t you move? Even if the apartment is well located, it can’t be worth not having cold water nor dealing with abusive management.

Need feedback on San Telmo neighborhood

We haven't heard from YASMIN in awhile, so before we get into a lengthy debate of Cristina vs. Macri and all that, I'd like to know why these visitors want to stay in San Telmo and if they have a accommodation reservation they can change. If not, there's no point in all this back and forth and...

    Family Transport in BA

I also would not bike regularly and any great distance in BA, and definitely not with your kids. Drivers are just too unreliable. We lived with our child near the Belgrano R train station and used the train far more than the subway. The Collegiales train stop on that same Mitre line is only...

Looking for Laughing Cow cheese wedges

The staying power of this question on the forum gives me a little joy in these crazy times so I’m doing my part to keep the post alive even though I have no idea of an answer...we all miss different things from home! Good luck in the search!!!

The consequences of a low-trust society

I couldn't agree more, particularly when describing the core of what causes so many of the problems in Argentina. Everyone expects they are going to be screwed over by others, unless they are in their core group. Therefore, screwing people over themselves seems justified.

    Help with finding work

Before I immediately echo the "Are you sure you wanna do that?!?" sentiment, why don't you tell us, why Argentina? That way, we may be able to help you better with getting a foothold in (currently, super crazy and definitely getting crazier) Argentina, or recommending an alternative country for...

    Opening a bank account

By all means (even a lower sales price, although it will benefit and be easier for both parties), complete the transaction without involving Argentine accounts!

Anyone else having problems getting dollars in?

I forget sometimes that many expats on this forum weren’t in Argentina in 2001 and some may not even know what happened then to the economy and the people. The government will force you to convert and keep your money in pesos which will be devalued. They will restrict your access to them...
