Who plans to live in Buenos Aires permanently and why?

We moved here in Oct 2000 when the ARG peso was pegged 1 to 1 with the USA dollar. At that time it was more expensive to live here then it was to live in California. The goal was to live in and experience a Latin culture (I have a B.S. in International Business specializing in Latin America)...

    Sushi Inflation in Buenos Aires

The I read somewhere about the “The Big Mac” Index which was introduced in 1986 by The Economist magazine which uses the price of a McDonald’s Big Mac as a way to measure the purchasing power parity between countries. This is “Pete and Ron’s Buenos Aires Sushi Inflation Index” We used to order...

    Graham crackers

The Quaker Honey (Miel) crackers are an excellent substitution for graham cracker crusts! Ron's marbled pumpkin cheesecake was a big hit at the dinner table last night. Tastes even better the next day with your morning coffee! Thanks for everyone's help. Pete & Ron

    Graham crackers

Thanks for the ideas, we tried the Lincoln crackers but IMHO they are NOT a good substitution to make graham cracker crusts, the make your own recipe sounds like a good idea. Someone else recommend the Quaker Miel (honey) crackers, we're going to try those next. Thanks again! Pete & Ron

New Express checkout passport kiosks at EZE

We just came through EZE this morning and there were some new automated passport control checkin kiosks. We’ve had Global Entry in the USA for about 5 years and LOVE IT. Is this something similar for Argentina? Anyone have any info on it and how to apply for it? Can non-Argentina citizens...

Question on cell phone plans that work between USA and Argentina

Welcome to the 21st century! Ron bought his first smart phone. We’re looking for the best way to use it here and in the USA. We talked to a Verizon guy in the USA and it seems like we would need to get a new SIMM card every time we returned to the USA, activating it with a new number (since...

    BsAs Cost of Living

Buses are 10.50 ARG pesos for most inner city distances, taxi off the street for 20 minute ride to AEP was 165 pesos, dinner for 3 at a neighborhood restaurant with 3 entrees, 1 glass of wine and 3 waters was $44 USA, dinner for 3 at a nice "fancy" restaurant "Teatriz" in Recoleta with 2...

Hello Group, I picked up a house guest at Jorge Newbery Aeroparque and while waiting for him to arrive I noticed a tourism information booth. I picked up a great fee map of the city (should have taken 2) for our guest and I noticed printed on the map a free phone app for BA tourism Search...

2 peso notes are being made illegal?

I was gone on vacation for 2 weeks and when I got back I heard the 2 peso bill will no longer be accepted after a certain time. What is this about? How long do I have to use my 2 peso notes before they expire? What is the rational for saying a 2 peso bill is no longer legal tender? Why not...

    Request: Hunting For Red Stag

Does anyone have any information on hunting trips, specifically for red stag? I'm not a hunter but I have relatives that are and they would love to plan a trip to go hunting here. Googling for information hits all the expensive companies that are geared to rich, affluent tourists. My...

Tipping The Delivery Guy - What Is A Good Amount?

Thanks for the comments. When I see a delivery charge added to a bill, I didn't think the delivery person got that, I was assuming that it just went to the business to pay for the delivery person's wages, etc... I've lived here since 2000 and they've always had a "cubierto" charge, which my...

Tipping The Delivery Guy - What Is A Good Amount?

We all know inflation is terrible, but the peso has been strengthening against the USA $. We just ordered sushi delivered last night and it went up 24% since January! I've been tipping delivery guys 30 pesos, but this seems a little stingy for a 1,000 peso sushi order. I'm just wondering what...
