    Any runners out there?

Hi runners! I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get the Nike+ chip in BA? I have the shoe part but somehow the iPod part got lost in the move down here... does any one either know where I can buy one, or have one that they're not using that they would sell/loan me for about 4-6 months...

    Gym in Almagro

Alex: great info, thanks! I checked out NEP's website, and it looks like they have some sort of programs for you, and then they do an evaluation of your progress every three months... Is that the case? Also, do you know if any/all classes are included? I should just stop by, but for now it's...

    Gym in Almagro

I've tried to search the forums but apparently "gym" is too common a word so I didn't get anything; sorry if this is a repeat subject. I'm looking for a gym in Almagro (near Cordoba and Bulnes). I don't need anything fancy, just something with a couple machines... don't really have the budget...

    butter

Yes, my grocery stores are always running low or completely out, too. The Disco by my house has rations, both on butter and sugar.. you can only buy two at once. Drives me crazy because I bake a lot. AND prices of butter (along with everything else) have been skyrocketing lately. I paid $6.80...

    Culinary school

I have been in contact with Instituto Argentino Gastronomico, is that the same (IAG)? I think I've decided to not do full on culinary school, but I'm thinking of doing some of the courses (2-3 months) that they offer. I just need to go get pricing info, although their full program pricing...

    moooore STEAK.

thanks for all the help, everyone! We somehow ended up back at Dada (on San Martin 900ish) for another night... but they never disappoint so it was all good!

    Culinary school

I was a pastry chef in the States, but am self/experience-taught. I plan on doing culinary school when I return home (whenever THAT is...), but have been looking into it here, too, since I'm already here. Thing is, I've been generally disappointed with the pastries here, although they're...

UBA Spanish classes: CUI vs LAB

I've been looking into taking Spanish classes at la UBA, and could have sworn I'd heard something about semester-long classes. I work and earn pesos, so I don't have the time or money for intensive courses. From what I gather, though, there is the Centro Universitario de Idiomas, and the...

    UBA Enrollment

pay for? I thought UBA classes were free (at the undergrad level)?? I've thought about doing this, too, but haven't looked into it. Although I'm not even sure where my high school diploma is right now... so that might put me off. Anyway, any other input?

    moooore STEAK.

Ooooh that all sounds very exciting! Do you know what cut of steak or is it one of those parrilladas completas with a billion different kinds? My friend actually doesn't even like steak, but has been (of course) loving it here... but only really bife de lomo. Even if I don't go with her, though...

    moooore STEAK.

I have a friend visiting me, she's been here for 2 weeks and I've taken her to all my go-to steak places, but we want to do one more for her last night (tonight) here, and I thought it would be a good chance to try somewhere new. Where do you go? Some prereq's (just to be difficult): We don't...

    teaching english in argentina

Hi all, There are a lot of other threads about this, and it looks like the OP has done a fair amount of research already. Anyway, here's my 2 cents, as an English teacher: http://baexpats.org/jobs/6907-please-advice-how-get-english-teach-job.html#post42459 That thread has lots of other...

    Expats not happy, why stay?

HYT, are you moving to Mendocino? As in, the little town in Northern California? Just curious.. that's my hometown :) Also, just had to throw my two cents in about something you said somewhere in this thread (I'm only about halfway through)... you compare BA to San Diego in a lot of respects...

    Info for U.S. Citizens

I need to get more pages added this week. Sounds like it takes less than an hour, yeah? This may be a silly question, but do I go to the US Embassy or Consulate? I always get them mixed up. And does anyone know if the fee went through? According to the State Dept website it's still free... Thanks!

    Salaries in Argentina

I completely agree. I live on less than that, and I have a comfortable living situation in Almagro (the Palermo-ish side), renting a room — of my own — in an apartment with a few other 20-somethings from all over. I spend too much on transportation because I work in Lomas de Zamora, and I mostly...

Relocating in the next 6 months...

Hi Alaine, I don't think you're crazy. I think you have a lot of research to do, but I don't think you're crazy. I moved here in September of last year with a one-way ticket, about U$4000 in the bank, and no job lined up. I do have my bachelor's degree (in graphic design), and I got my TESOL...

Where to get business cards printed

I'd recommend going with someone who can do offset printing, you'll get a much better deal. There's a place on Bartolome Mitre (3700ish) that does 1000 for $90 pesos, and I got quoted $140 for 1000 (I think) at a shop on Medrano, around Guardia Vieja.. there are tons on that street. I wasn't too...
