    Travel adaptor from UK

Thank you, one of mine has two small round pins- European one and the other one has two slanted blades for America. Australian or Argentinian has 3 blades (2 slanted - 1 perpendicular). I have a feeling 2 blade one will probably be fine in Argentina as well as the European one.

    Travel adaptor from UK

Hi, I believe two types of powerplug are used in Argentina? European and the one similar to Australian plug. I will bring an Imac desktop and a PC laptop with me for work and personal use. 220V is fine but a bit confused about the plug types and what sort of travel adaptors would I need? I...

    20" Imac on the plane

Thanks for all the info. I will try and get baggage contents / travel insurance for a few days to cover the flight before I leave and put the Imac- in a bubble wrap and clothes around it, in a box then in a suitcase, will see Customs at Heathrow before I leave. I won't get more than 7-800 USD...

    20" Imac on the plane

Sorry just saw your message, thank you! Very late here, wasn't expecting many people trying to help. So I will declare it at Heathrow customs and check it in a box in my suitcase with enough protection around it. Declaring it will protect me from being asked for 'whatever' in Buenos Aires, but...

    20" Imac on the plane

French Jurist, I am in London UK. It cost me £780 ( £1 = 1.525 USD today) in January 2009, I could perhaps get £500-550 (750-800USD) on Ebay if I sold it, not guaranteed and not worth the hassle- all my files are on there - personal / work. If I sold it in Argentina, would probably get a few...

    20" Imac on the plane

Yes it is looks like a thin 20" plasma screen TV - 9.1kg , fits easily in my suitcase ( the whole system). I think I will have to decide between suitcase or original box with protection around it. Too expensive to ship it.

    20" Imac on the plane

I am on a tourist visa and have an invoice for Imac from 14 months ago, not sure how else I can prove that it is used. Yeah that's why the box is safe even if tossed around as there is another box inside the big box and I can put my clothes around it- it is only £40 extra= 61 usd on top of that...

    20" Imac on the plane

From London, carry-on luggage limit is 5kg, Imac is about 9-10kg, so yeah I may have to put it in a suitcase, and not good as they will throw it around despite the fragile sticker, although it won't draw attention. Need to find out how I can take out the leg- stand part, hopefully it is easy. I...

    20" Imac on the plane

Hi, I have to take my 20" Imac with me on the plane to Argentina as the luggage allowance is quite generous (32kgx2 checked in+5kg on-board), will put it in its original box with clothes around it, and a fragile item sticker. I bought it 14 months ago and have the invoice to show, would there...

Ok Buenos Aires here we come...

I hope it is not as dangerous as they make it out to be. My car got stolen twice in 'very safe' Australia in a short time- in Brisbane then in Sydney.

Ok Buenos Aires here we come...

: )) Nice one... Street crime is one thing I am worried about, won't wear an expensive watch- never bought one, carry much money or bank cards on me or show off a camera and might use my old Nokia just to be safe, no iphones! Not into that sort of stuff anyway.

Ok Buenos Aires here we come...

Hi Citygirl, No I am not there yet- will be in 12 days but did a great deal of research on different aspects of life in Argentina. I have also stressed, in both of my posts, that if one earns USD, Euro or Pound... It is very clear that life is bloody tough in Bs As if earning Argentinian wages...

Ok Buenos Aires here we come...

Hi Steve, I think there is quite a bit of xenophobia in many parts of Europe and they are not particularly in love with Americans or non-French, non-whatever, I will include non-Aussie too... I love France and many nice people in Paris too but the 'genuine' friendliness I find in some poor...

Ok Buenos Aires here we come...

Hi pericles, I am half Australian and lived in Sydney for a few years, Australia has one of the highest standards of living in the world but in my opinion it is 'dull'.. that's why I wouldn't want to go back there and the main reason for me is earning an income in USD and having savings in...

Ok Buenos Aires here we come...

I really don't understand the comments about Bs.As being an expensive city. United States is a very cheap place and who knows how the businesses make any money by selling goods cheaper than places like Turkey or Greece. I had two friends visiting London from Argentina recently- and sterling is...

Arriving on 30 March from London

I had several bad experiences with Abbey Santander, they offer you good interest rates for a bank account but then when you have to deal with them on the phone, total nightmare! I had an Abbey Zero credit card- the type you would want for abroad and asked for an extension as it was valid until...

Arriving on 30 March from London

Hi jez, yes it is the flex account... apparently it is the best card to use abroad, followed by those currency cards I believe - quite good exchange rates. and Santander Zero is the best credit card, 0% and decent exchange rates, but Abbey - Santander sent me the wrong type of credit card...

Arriving on 30 March from London

Thanks Howard. Hi tangobob, I have a HSBC account but not a premier customer, and have a visa debit card with them. I thought it had a 2.75% fee and bad exchange rates, when I used abroad before. You may be a premier customer?

Arriving on 30 March from London

Hi Everyone! I will be in Buenos Aires at the end of March and was wondering if anyone from UK has experience with using currency cards in Argentina. I am aware of the ATM charges of £2 there with restrictions on the amount one can withdraw each time. I got a Santander zero credit card- doubt...
