How many of you want to leave Bs As?

I came to BsAs back in January of 2011 with the intention of staying three months and then heading somewhere else. BsAs was definitely one of the most frustrating places I had been to on all my travels, mainly due to the cultural differences the difficulty in getting basic things done. That...

Canadians: is there a particular iPhone/ provider that will/ will not work in BA?

Stated another way, none of the iPhones purchased with the default providers (Rogers, Telus, Fido, etc) will work with a SIM in Argentina - you need an unlocked phone purchased from the Apple store directly, or to unlock it using third-party software. That said, if your contract is up on your...

    Changing Money at EZE

I could - what is that and where would I find one? :) I thought it might make more sense at EZE since I'll have finishing spending money at that point.

    Changing Money at EZE

Actually, my problem is the reverse. I'm in Buenos Aires now, but I'm leaving for the US tomorrow. I need to convert my pesos into USD.

    Changing Money at EZE

I know there is a bank that everyone uses on the arrival side after clearing customs, but does anyone know if there's a similar bank on the departures side? I'd like to convert some pesos into USD while I leave tomorrow. If not, I assume I can just go to the one on the arrivals side before...

    Noise Bylaws?

I just checked out from the apartment today. The landlord actually got me a little mate set as a present for all the noise. So, everything is now right again in the universe.

    Selling iPhone 4

Depends where you buy it. In Canada it's possible to obtain the iPhone 4 factory unlocked via the Apple store. My understanding is that it's not available unlocked in the USA.

    Noise Bylaws?

Haha, thanks. I do feel better! :)

    Noise Bylaws?

I don't accept it either, but what can I do? I'm only here another week, so I probably will just put up with it. But I feel a bit taken advantage of since it must be obvious how loud an annoying it is. Even an apology about the noise would make me feel better.

    Noise Bylaws?

They started at 7am this morning, and they are still going right now (7:49pm)

    Noise Bylaws?

Stupid question, but are there any sorts of noise bylaws in Buenos Aires? The place that I'm renting has a suite underneath me, and they've been renovating it. But it's constant, loud noise, going on 14 to 16 hours a day. I've emailed my landlord about it, but he's completely ignored my...

    Change in expat attitudes?

I don't really want to start an argument about where restaurant food is cheaper. Clearly food is cheaper here. I also think there are many great things about Buenos Aires, things that don't exist in Vancouver, and things I have definitely enjoyed here. But I still don't see the restaurant...

    Ativan

I had a prescription for Ativan from back in Canada to help with anxiety on airplanes. Unfortunately it's almost out, and I still have a lot of flying left to do before I go home. I went through other posts, and some people said that some farmacies will let you buy medication if you bring in...

    Money Exchange on Leaving BsAs

I'm leaving BsAs in two weeks, and was just curious if it's possible to exchange pesos into USD at EZE airport somewhere (on the departure side)? Also, how much should I set aside for fees (I was told there is an exit fee?) and what-not for EZE? I'm trying not to take out too much money in...

    Change in expat attitudes?

Well, I don't know where you eat. Vancouver has three semi famous steak houses that are well known, Morton's, Gotham and Chives I believe. At both Morton's at Gotham one can get a steak for $50. Do what you will with the wine. And for $25 - $30 you can easily get a decent steak (comparable...

    Change in expat attitudes?

I had planned to come for three months, and was hoping at the end of it that I would like it enough to want to stay. But it's been over two months now that I've been living in Buenos Aires, and I'll be ready to go when the time comes. I'm from Vancouver, Canada, and I consider it one of the...

    SIM cards

I had a bit of grief getting a SIM for my phone when I arrived. I eventually sorted it all out, and documented my experience. I hope it helps you get a SIM! http://themigratorynerd.com/2011/getting-a-pay-as-you-go-sim-in-buenos-aires/

    Inflation in BA?

Define "prosperous" :) The country of Bhutan measures the Gross National Happiness, which is a measure of how happy everyone is. Instead of focusing on making a large economy, they focus on making everyone happier. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhutan I'm heading to Serbia in the summer to...

    Inflation in BA?

Fair enough. I agree that since having a podcast and what-not that he's been a bit more self-promotional, but I still value his opinions on financial affairs as most of them seem rather spot on. Time will tell!
