which airlines is the best economy across to europe

BA & KLM, are pretty good, I'd pick KLM if I had the choice but BA is a close 2nd on their newer fleet. Never flown Lufthansa, assume they are OK based on some experience flying with them in Europe.

After that Air France ...although their premium economy is better than the equivalent BA product, I can't justify paying it these days though, rather eat and drink the extra outlay whilst back home. AF seem to have paid less attention to their economy product than BA and the seat config at least feels more cramped. have had my entertainment system crash out a few times on AF too.

To avoid : Aliltalia & Iberia. Old planes & poor service. Sadly Iberia have the overnight outbound slot to London so I have used them as I don't like daytime long haul.

Never tried Turkish Airlines, I think you can go from Sao Paulo to Istanbul. Should be decent as their Euro domestic routes are comfortable. I'd be tempted there as I love Istanbul.

Thanks for the comprehensive report.

I agree with Magico. BA is a more comfortable flight and AF is quite a bit more. However, I loathe Heathrow. Too many bad experiences there and after a long flight from the Western Hemisphere it's too much to deal with. AF takes me right to my destination, so I usually forked out the extra.

Lufthansa is part of Star Alliance, so that's probably your best choice. :)

Confusing answer

which is No 1 for economy ( not premier economy)?

KLM or BA or AF or Lufthansa

Please choose 1

Iberia with its revamped A340s , especially the individual screens , has improved and isnt as bad as in previous years.

I have done three long hauls up the back this year and they have been OK

Still BA and KLM as said previously are probably best if the price is right.

In terms of the quality of the seat, I would say BA, if that is what you were asking. (Never flew Lufthansa from South America)

I look for three main things :-

1. Good check-in. No harassment on checked in baggage weight or carry on baggage weight/size
2. Good leg space
3. Good entertainment on demand on personal video screen

Sure, that I can relate to. I don't think there would be a huge difference between BA, AF and Luft. That's why I mentioned all the other factors. What is your final destination?

I flew Iberia in Sept with no in seat entertainment, only a shared screen every 5 rows or so. Seat was broken, asked if there was anything they can do, "nada" was the curt reply. I wouldnt chance it again. Left with a broken seat for the 11hrs to madrid.
