As Harleygirl said try it out before cutting your ties to the US. I've tried Thailand and Argentina and doubt I would want to stay in either place long term.
People say the weather is great. Depends on what you like. If you like cool dry weather like in the West Coast, as I do, I find the humidity here uncomfortable. I came in the winter and with the locals dressed in winter coats and scarfs it still seems muggy to me... Other people are already complaining about the gray skies and cold...
