A Shitty New Years Eve.. and the Porteño Attitude

I recently asked my agent if I am covered for storm damage...such as a tree falling on the house in a strong wind. She said no...that's "clima" and the structure (mostly brick with a tile roof) is only covered for fire damage.

A bit off topic for this thread, but get a better policy or a better broker.

The very cheap advertised house insurance policies offered at like $39 or $50 per month are a scam, they cover so little as to be close to useless. It's like buying a new car and then buying terceros completos instead of todo riesgo.

You need a policy that includes "HVCT Edificio" and "HVCT Contenido" clausas. These will cover you for damage from hurricanes, storms, cyclones and earthquakes.

They rather support a criminal on the street if he is a local than support the robbed/ mugged/beaten expat bf. Believe me, I have seen expats experience this with 3-4 different Portena girls in last 4-5 years.
Holy cow! Can you please provide the details regarding the 3 or 4 cases where local girls have sided with the criminal that robbed, mugged, or beat up their own boyfriend?

I would again say to newly arrived vulnerable English speaking expats first time in BA..enjoy BA , it's culture, date the local women , be optimistic overall but don't expect the local girls to take yr side if it involves their countrymen.
It's one thing to simply "take sides" as in a mundane dispute. It 's another to take sides with a criminal that has robbed, mugged, or beaten up your expat boyfriend. I really need to know of your experiences before believing that you aren't simply trolling. Care to fill us in?

So store some gasoline at the top of your trees so that when they come down, they set the house on fire:)

Seriously though, that looks like good advice from ndcj

Perhaps the mistake is that he's paying his "local friends" by the hour? :D

And how often does a "traditional upper middle class porteño/a" become "friends" with an English speaking foreigner who has been in BA for one month and go out with him on a night traditionally spent with their closest Argentine friends?

Steve,

I agree 100% with this viewpoint of yrs. I still stick with my earlier viewpoint but I also agree with what you have said here.

Like someone said above, it could be a escort in this particular case.

Yes, I can fill you in. I have no reason to " lie" on what I know or have heard of from people I personally know. Do I gain anything by saying something which is a figment of my imagination?

Having said that, the incidents can not be narrated in a single line and if I care to miss out any vital detail, the veterans of this forum will come out with their swords and sarcasm.

Yes if we meet in some get together, I will be happy to narrate.

Where does the OP indicate that the Porteña in question is "upper middle class" OR that either of them was speaking in English?

He didn't, but as he is staying in the nicest area of Roceleta it's probably a good guess.

Besides what typically self obsessed porteña would think of herself as or admit to being anything less than upper middle classs?

I asked if they were overheard speaking English.

We haven't got the answer from the OP yet.

Based on my first encounter with an upper middle class portena the first month I was in BA I'll bet the answer is that they were speaking English.

On our first date, my (soon to be) porteña girlfriend cautioned me not to speak English loud enough to be heard in the street, on the train, or in the subte. At the time of my arirval I could barely speak Castellano well enough to form a few sentences.

She never sided with anyone who was violent toward me. No one ever was...except for her!

And even after we had been dating for three months, she didn't invite me to her mother's 80th birthday party.

I don´t get your attitude towards the veterans of the forum... (???) IF you say something idiotic, anybody, veteran or newbie has the right to chime in :)
