I would certainly not be able to develop a trusting relationship with someone who would put me in a position to be robbed (Plaza San Martin at night) and then was nonchalant about it.
Trust me... I think she's naive and foolish for what she did and I won't be placing any important tasks in her lap anytime soon after that.

This is a great point. Unfortunately, the victim of this sad tale not only didn't find it strange, he seemed to be oblivious of the danger sitting next to him (probably on the other side of his friend):
Actually I did find it strange.. but at that point it was one guy who was smaller than me and I could have easily handled him on my own.
Plus (and in hindsight rather foolishly) I did place some degree of trust in my Portena friend who seemed to think nothing of it (*I can't wait for your responses to that part lol)..
She had been pretty damn good to me up until that point on many, many other occasions.
She is not from downtown and obviously didn't think there would be a problem.
Also, I travel a lot throughout the year... and each time I try to do as much homework as possible on my next destination.
But it's impossible to know everything let's face it.
There are travel warnings for La Boca, Congresso, Villa 31 etc.. but not Retiro in the materials I was reading.
In fact the Wikipedia page for Retiro says
"is home to many high-end stores and residential areas popular among both local wealthy gentry and expatriate executives."
I live in Recoleta and it's very safe at night... I was led to believe Retiro was a similar kind of area.
I try to do my best to cram as much credible information into my brain before going to different countries.
The ratio of problems I encounter in comparison to the amount of traveling I do are pretty small, but shit does indeed happen sometimes as I stated earlier.
Quite honestly I humbly appreciate many of your concerns and tips etc.
