Advice On Documentation

yeah, can you please provide a link to whatever source of information you are getting that from nlaruccia???

You don't need to renew your passport. It means that in order to keep entering Argentina you have to return to your home country once a year.

That's not accurate. You do need to leave Argentina every 90 days if you wish to keep a current tourist visa but there is no mandate to travel to your home country.

To be honest, I don't recall. I used to travel to Colonia every three months, about ten years ago. I think they told me in immigrations that I would have to go home and re-enter Argentina because the limit to traveling to Uruguay to stamp your U.S. passport again was three trips. Maybe the laws have changed, but I got permanent residence years ago and don't know if laws at the time I was just a tourist have changed. Let's hope so.

i dont think it was ever a law and it's a bit of a grand assumption to think something someone you cant recall maybe teling you ten years ago that you have not had to deal with since was 1. a law and 2. applicable now

ten years ago i lived here and went to uruguay every three months for over two years- i never heard of your bizarre claim. happy to know the slight panic i felt when i read your post was 1. unsubstantiated and 2. based on a funky smell

Requiring to leave the Host country once a year and returing to your country of origin are extremely different requirements.
A host country may require to register you leaving and re-entering its bordes periodically.
Where you go while complying is entirely up to you. The host country might be able to specify that you just don't re-enter for a minimum period of time in between visits or that you are not allowed to go to a neighboring country just to perform one of these "day at Colonia/Montevideo" parodies. Period.

You were lucky. I was told the limit was three visits. Just like the post about the validation of the stamp in your passport for reciprocity fee in the recent posts, it often depends on who's working in immigrations the day you visit and what kind of mood they're in.
