But what a disaster!!!
The upper class will not be able to go to Miami through AA for 3 months.
IT IS VENEZUELA!!!
I brought up the comparison before with Lucas and Cabrera of blessed memory, but this quote is a real gem.
"The upper class will not be able to go to Miami through AA for 3 months." No, the restriction (such that it is; I know no details, and it's irrelevant to my point) does not apply only to the 'upper class', it applies to everyone.
So what is being said is that certain, let's say
unfree behaviors are OK - as long as they only hurt that darned upper class.
Normal, decent people see curtailing the ability of people to buy things with their own money* as the beginning (or the continuation) of a slippery slope that eventually has a real chance of (pro/re)gressing towards Venezuela and the Stasi.
That is what I think gpop was referring to. He was not saying nothing, he was referring to certain vibes which are familiar to anyone who is familiar with living in an autocratic, usually Communist society, and which function as the canary in the coal mine: a precursor, if you will, of worse things to come. These worse are not
guaranteed to come, and let's hope they don't, but the pattern is familiar to whoever has seen it before.
