Ambientes vs. Dormitorios

should be a simple question
(I give up...):

what is the difference between an ambience and a dormitorio?
as i see it, an ambiences is a "space" vs a dormitorio which is a "bedroom" ?

so could you have a studio apartment with multiple "spaces" (kitchen, dining, living... intruding a dedicated "space" to sleep) but no bedroom?
vs. a 1-bedroom apartment, which by default would have to have (2) "spaces", but may only have (2) "spaces" ?

(...rented the same apartment several weeks a year, for several years; would really like to be there again... sigh, it seems to have gone off-the-market. the hunt begins !!)

Ambiente refers to rooms, dormitorios specifically to bedroom. A monoambiente would be a studio apartment, while 2 ambientes would be a 1 bedroom, 3 ambientes 2 bedrooms, etc.

No, a studio is a monoambiente. Dormitorio is bedroom, yes, but not how apartments are described.

A 1 bedroom is a dos ambientes
A 2 bedroom is a tres ambientes

Beyond that, don't try to make sense of it. It's just Argentina.

"Ambiente" is a room (any room). "Dormitorio" is specifically a bedroom.

I'm going to politely disagree with your statement that any room is an ambiente. The only things that count are the living room, which is always the first one, and bedrooms. Even a separate kitchen is not an ambiente.
