An Argentinian doctor making $50k a year survives how exactly?

I had a friend in Hospital Aleman, 29 year old doctor. She was earning around 23000 pesos per month in October,18.

You've got me confused with this figure of $50,000 -- USD or Argentine pesos. I wish people could be clear. I doubt that many doctors in Argentina make more than 50,000 pesos per month. I suspect that many make a good deal less. A handful of surgeons do better.

People with private practice such as dermatoligist in Palermo having 3/4 employees probably makes 200,000 pesos per month in net profit. If not more.

We're still waiting for Fiscal to clear that up.

An Argentine doctor making $200,000 pesos per month would be making about $50K USD per year and I wouldn't think there would be a serious question about their ability to "survive" in Argentina.

The ability of an Argentine doctor making $50K pesos per month to "survive" would depend on whether they owned their own place to live and if they had roommates to reduce their expenses or a wife and children that increase them.

It would be interesting to know how she survives (single/married/living with a husband who has earnings/living with parents/roommates/etc.)

Probably but you must keep in mind that doctors with successful practices in prosperous neighborhoods are by no means the norm. And Buenos Aires is not all of Argentina. A doctor who treated me at the Trinidad clinic told me that his father is a surgeon in the province of Formosa and has to provide his own surgical instruments as the public hospital did not have enough to go around. That was a few years ago. maybe it's better now or maybe it's worse. I don't know. The 29 year old mentioned above probably lives with parents or has a spouse who earns as much or more. And she might have a second job that she didn't mention. A lot of doctors work in both private clinics as well as public hospitals.

You'd be surprised how many doctors drive taxis to supplement income.

50,000 after tax here is how much?

I recall a post that "answered" this question by stating that salaries paid to an employee were quoted in take home pay, but I don't remember if that was ever confirmed.

I imagine Nikad (among others) will know.

PS to Fiscal: You are referring to $50K pesos per month?

Some (if not many) doctors also accept cash that is never reported.

PS: I was just reminded of this by my retired (from the navy) Argentine friend.
