Another Special Flight to the USA (Mar 31 at 9:30 am)

After the ominous warning about the "last flight" here's another:

One advantage of these flights is that they are direct to the USA (EZE to Miami). Last time I checked, the other flights transit in Lima.

• Event: Eastern Airlines has announced it will operate a second direct flight from Buenos Aires to Miami, Florida on Tuesday, March 31, at 9:30 a.m. from Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza). U.S. citizens interested in departing on this flight will need to book directly with Eastern Airlines. At this time, this is the only direct way to travel between Argentina and the United States. If you need to leave Argentina, you should strongly consider booking this flight, otherwise you should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. Under U.S. law, passengers on U.S. government-organized charter flights are responsible for paying the full cost of their ticket, which may be higher than standard fares.
  
  Please monitor https://goeasternair.com for the latest information on the flight and ticket availability. *The flight is subject to change.* This is not a U.S. government-operated or funded flight. The Embassy is liaising with Eastern to provide travel information to U.S. citizens.
  
  For U.S. citizens who live in the United States this may be one of your last opportunities to return until regular international commercial air service reopens in Argentina. The remaining commercial flight options for departing Argentina are extremely limited via Brazil and appear on airlines’ websites at the last-minute. Many scheduled flights have been cancelled, often with little advance notice. If you believe you have an international flight out of Buenos Aires, please call your airline to confirm.
  
  Travelers Still in Outer Provinces/Travel to Buenos Aires
  
  Due to the difficulties in traveling from the provinces to Buenos Aires in time for any potential international flight, the U.S. Embassy encourages all U.S. citizens remaining in the provinces who want to depart Argentina on this or any other flight to travel to Buenos Aires as soon as possible. Because of checkpoints, travelers should plan for additional travel time. U.S. citizens attempting to leave Argentina must arrange their own domestic travel. NOTE: U.S. citizens already in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area please read the instructions below under Travelers Already in Buenos Aires.
  Aerolíneas Argentinas has indicated that limited flights will operate until March 31 from Cordoba, Comodoro Rivadavia, Trelew, Iguazu, Mendoza, Neuquen, Tucuman, Ushuaia, and Rio Gallegos to Buenos Aires Aeroparque. Space is limited. You can book directly through Aerolíneas Argentinas at www.aerolineas.com.ar.

  To avoid unnecessary delays, you should NOT circulate on Argentine roads and attempt to reach Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza) at night. Each province has its own regulations regarding COVID-19 when carrying out inspections at provincial borders, and nighttime clearance at such checkpoints cannot be guaranteed.
  
  For U.S. citizens traveling from the provinces to Buenos Aires by ground transportation/overland, the Government of Argentina is requesting the following information. NOTE: U.S. citizens already in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area DO NOT need to submit this information to reach the airport.
  · Make and model of vehicle
  · License plate number
  · Name of driver
  · Route to Buenos Aires
  · Name of each passenger and passport number
  · Place of origin (city and province)
  · Destination (Ezeiza)
  U.S. citizens should send this information immediately to [email protected]. The subject line of your e-mail should read “Overland Travel Itinerary.” With that information, the Embassy will produce a letter for you to carry with you or display on your mobile device to present to authorities in addition to the following two letters: Embassy Letter and Ministry Note, also requested by the Government of Argentina, and your passport.
  
  Use the three letters to explain your purpose of travel to the checkpoint authorities. If you are unsuccessful in transiting through the checkpoint, call the Embassy’s emergency phone line listed on the Embassy Letter while you are still at the checkpoint.
  There are still a few hotels open in Buenos Aires accepting guests, including the Sheraton Buenos Aires (+54 011 4318-9000 or [email protected]), the Park Tower (also +54 011 4318-9000 or [email protected]), and the Hilton Puerto Madero (+54 011 4891-0000; Hilton Buenos Aires reservations; [email protected]).
  Travelers Already in Buenos Aires
  
  Travelers in the Greater Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area departing for Ministro Pistarini (Ezeiza) International Airport should carry the following documentation, required by the Government of Argentina:

  · Confirmed international airline ticket
  · Embassy Letter
  · Ministry Note
  It is not necessary at this time to submit your airport travel plans to the Embassy if beginning your travels in the Greater Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. Because of checkpoints, travelers should plan for additional travel time.

Be very careful trusting Eastern Airlines. I was on the 26 March flight which was delayed 16 hours til 27 March 930 AM. We arrived 4 hours before departure but they didn't start check in until 730 AM ( 2 hours before departure) even though they knew they had to do manual check ins for all 230 pax with only 4 reps. It ended up taking 5.5 hours so everyone of course missed their connections in the USA when we arrived 18 hours after the original arrival time. Worse though was that everyone who had a seat assignment lost them. I had paid for a business class seat but they gave them all away and I was stuck in the last row non-reclining by the toilet in economy even though I paid a premium fare. Upon showing my confirmed seat assignment in business, the ground staff, flight attendants, and even the captain said "we can't do anything - the airline main office didn't give us a list of passengers/seat assignments so we had to assign manually. Take the seat or don't fly."

Now the airline is refusing to compensate me for all my consequential costs - they blame the local handling agent.

Be very careful booking with Eastern.
