I've seen a few threads regarding Arge credit cards but not one on how to get one.

I work en blanco and my employer has a bank account opened for me at a commercial bank. The minimum income thing doesn't seem to be an issue as when I've been able to see the requirements I'm usually a couple thousand pesos over it.

I have my DNI in the mail and have a CUIL and CDI number with AFIP.

I also have a "permanent contract".

What have you guys done to get your cards? Is there a better one? Visa, Amex, Master? I'm looking for one that I can use online/overseas and one that has a lower interest rate since I'm not interested in points.

I am not a citizen, so I'm wondering if that's a requirement, but anyways I apriciate any recommendations/stories.

I would have expected a rep from the bank to contact you to tell you waht cards your eligible for and to tell you how to pick them, that is to say that credit card(s) should be part of the bank account product they have opened for you.

Go into the branch and ask them what the story is.

I had to stop my account opening process with ICBC and switch to Citi because after 2 months ICBC told me they were unable to open an account for a foreign permanent resident. Citi had no issues.

Agree go to your bank rep and ask for a debit and credit cards....! Amex is not accepted in ATM's in Colonia, Amex Accepted only in some places here, choose Mastercard, rates vary from bank to bank and type of card and product mix.

ps....my own experience around Europe, South America and a little bit of Asia is that Visa/Mastercard are almost always accepted and that occasionally AMEX isn't, that said AMEX is accepted on a widespread basis too. The difference traditionally was that VISA and MC were associations or a network of banks which issued and facilitated transactions on the VISA /MC networks. AMEX was a company with it's own infrastructure and systems. Last I had anything to do with any of it there were changes planned....thankfully I escaped payment technology IT and ended up in insurance IT..oh..wait...hmmm. The excitement is overwhelming.

Dublin .... my comment was that AMEX is NOT widely accepted in Capital , not to mention in the Provincia de Buenos Aires and perhaps elsewhere in Argentina...?

Well, i have all of them, i would say more than 80% of the time Amex is accepted although less likely to be in smaller retailers because of the extra cost of offering this service. Most larger retailers will accept it.

VISA and MC are much better products for me.

Am I wrong in thinking that the general requirements are:

DNI
Account at the bank
CDI/CUIL
Proof of Income
Contract/Paystubs/etc.

I want to use the card(s) to pay for groceries en cutoas since I get paid monthly and pay for my Skype plan and shop online in general, plus when traveling abroad.

I can $50 USD in Colonia/Puerto Natales no?
What is a minimum/standard credit limit? BOA is like 300-500 for 12K or 1-2-5k for 20-25k is it a fixed amount or a percent of your monthly/yearly income?

I know for Paypal I have to becareful but like I said right now it's mainly for stuff everyone uses.

Oh and my foreigner DNI shouldn't affect it right? I'm not a PR.

Thanks guys!

Citi also has an American Airlines miles credit card, I know the OP said they weren't interested in points but if you fly to the USA this is the useful points card. Most banks you get points with their little members club and when you get a quadrillion of them you can cash them in for a set of 4 glasses worth 32 pesos.

I'd be open to getting a rewards card but the only kind of airmiles I collect are Delta Skymiles and Lufthansa Miles and More.

I've been think for One World whether to collect with AA or LAN. I'm not sure which is better since both are in the same alliance.

But I'd be willing to give up the rewards for a lower APR and monthly fee.

Correct me if I'm wrong but AMEX back home lets us redeem on any airline, is that the case here too?
