Are Buenos Aires People More Spanish Influenced or Italian?

Having just left Rome after living in the Trastevere area I was struck by how the local people reminded me of Portenos in terms of personality and friendliness. More so than my experience living in Spain. Pizza was superb too ! Seems to me the Portenos are more Italian than Spanish. Thoughts?

I totally agree. The Italian culture dominates. I remember a friend (Argentine) telliing me that he grew up thinking Spain was the mother country until he went to Italy and saw how similar Italians were -- the gestures, loud voices, personalities etc.

Agree. I always say that Buenos Aires is the most Italian place outside of Italy, bar none. Especially center or south Italy.
Sometimes I still stop when I walk in Buenos Aires to listen to some random people talking because I think they are Italians, only to realize they are not; the gestures and the intonations are so similar.
 
It’s half and half; a little bit more Italian

These days Bolivia / Peru / Venezuelan 100 times more than either Spain or Italy unless you exclusively visit South of Scalabrini Ortiz within walking distance of Santa Fe. But I realise for a lot of expats that is the only Buenos Aires that exists so carry on
 
If they are more italian then how come they have the most awful pizza!!! I need pizza!!
