Are people finally getting fed up? New petition going around

Every authoritarian leader knows, "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun."

You have to give credit to today's authoritarian leaders, be it Obama, Putin or CFK in that most have not resorted to using the police and military to achieve their power consolidation. And comparing these three, CFK has been the most restrained in using the police state to control the opposition. Putin and Obama's police have been much more aggressive in suppressing opposition (e.g. widespread use of mace in the US to suppress Occupy Wall Street, Pussy Riot, etc.).

I think CFK has a lot of room to be more forceful in her authoritarian ways as she looks abroad and sees what other "leaders" have been able to get away with.

They don't have to use mace in Argentina.. because all they do is bang on their pots and pans from their triple locked doors, barred 10th floor windows.
If this type of state controlled robbery and corruption was going on in most western nations.. there would be full blown riots going on.. years ago!

Ha...just saw the footage by scotttswan... seems 50 portenos did make it to a protest.. with 50 cops and a tank macing them

it was the veterans who went against Cristina's wishes.... not long before (or after can't quite remember) there was another protest that blocked 9 de Julio but they apparently had her blessing and weren't broken up in a few minutes in military fashion.

It's a water canon and the protesters were throwing rocks and weren't even arrested. If they had tried that in the US or Russia the police would have shot them with rubber bullets (at the minimum) and arrested and prosecuted each and everyone of them. Police in Argentina treat protesters with kid gloves compared to the US and Russia.

I used to live 1 block from congreso @ Callao y Mitre and I have seen some protests. That water cannon is often filled with some sort of tear gas and I've seen people go flying 10ft after being hit with it.

I live right in front of Congreso, and I have never seen in the 2+ years that I have lived in this apartment, any type of violent oppression towards people at protests. I've never even seen anybody getting arrested. And protests are never past 7PM, only once until 8PM. It seems to be very controlled for now, doesn't mean it can't get out of hand though. I hope it doesn't!
