Are You A Neo-Liberal?

Unfortunately corruption and greed have deprived many in Argentina of any perspective regarding politics. Anything vaguely non-populist and isolationist is met with howls of "neoliberlismo!"(which I dislike as much as populism) hence discussion is fruitless.

As a result the resident Kirchneristas can label people 'neo' with understanding what that actually means and without having to point to a shred of evidence. There is a frightening lack of any type of political discourse in the media by any side or party. People tune into stage managed speeches devoid of questioning or challenge or watch tabloid trash on anti government channels.

The thing which I struggle to understand is the lack of aspiration to elevate this country to its potential global standing. Who can be happy sat at the table with a Birdy Maduro and being made fools of by the Iranians...not least looking to make pacts (blanqueos) with narcos, pimps and corrupt businessmen in the name of "the model".

The resources and opportunities are abundant but sadly the political leadership panders to lowest common denominator politics (isolationist populism) and corruption is accepted right up until the minute the train comes off the tracks.

Political subjects do not create animosity with me. I like them. I respect your opinion but I do want reasons for why you think what you do. If you just get it "out of the ethers" with no foundation, it doesn't help anyone. Contrary opinions force us to think through what we do believe--and true thinkers will like that. One side sharpens the other! For those who are offended though I suggest just going on and reading and posting to another thread. .There's lots of great stuff here to choose from.

By Joe's definition of neo-liberal (I actually thought it was something else) I think I am trending more in that direction. Free market is a big part of what made the U. S. of America what she became. I'm old enough that I have watched the process of socialism and extreme regulation coming in and the deterioration that has resulted. I am understanding the founding fathers more all the time. They did a good job. Sadly I am feeling that we have not.

With all the government stimulus in the US, you would think if it is such a great thing, incomes for the poor and middle class would be rising, instead they are falling. "Government Stimulus" via QE and artificially low interest rates have only done one thing - transfer even more wealth to the rich. For example, retired people or people looking forward to retirement are being crucified because their saving or their pension funds are generating next to nothing in earnings. However Wall St. in reaping a world-wind of profits from QE. You hear all the time about that the US is four years into "recovery" and yet the number of people in the work force as a percentage of the population keeps declining along with average wages.

Neo-Keynesian policies have been a disaster for the poor and the middle class. Europe is a disaster for everyone.

In the US, we had only a timid stimulus program, far too small to escape from the hole that eight years of misgovernment and unfunded wars left us in. The stimulus only managed to slow the bleeding a little.

No matter how perfect the actual definition may be, political labels seem to confuse the discussion. A person who is not a Neo-Liberal may well say a Neo-Liberal stands for all sorts of things which a true neo-Liberal doesn´t.

The most popular poll answer is Foreigner and NOT Neo-Liberal. 47%!

But I have seen only one post from a Foreigner that indicated they didn't consider themselves a Neo-Liberal.

I've seen no posts from Foreigners criticizing Neo-Liberal policies.

This is a combination of two things:

1) Identifying yourself as a Neo-Liberal would make you very unpopular at your local Milonga.
2) You don't really know the meaning of Neo-Liberal (Hint: It's not the same as Liberal in N. America)

I have to say the Argentines are much more straightfoward in their beliefs on this.

The Foreigners are being a bit Namby Pamby. I guess I can't really expect much from Perma-Tourists.Perhaps Cojones and Perma-Tourist are things that do not mix.

And please no more responses -"Oh, my gosh, I don't like Labels". That is the most Namby Pamby response possible.

Come on Neo-Libs and Libs. Come out of the closet and explain why you are or aren't a Neo-Liberal or are you just Girly-Men?
