Argentina Pesos on ferry to Uruguay

Hi. Heading back to Europe via ferry to Montevidio in a few days. Will have some pesos left. Can I spend them onboard or even change to Uruguay pesos? My flight the day after I arrive in Montevidio. Thanks.

You can buy stuff in pesos or dollars on board and use their cambio facilities to buy/sell what you don't spend. The exchange rate, as I recall, wasn't good.

It’s almost a year since we traveled with Buquebus but I remember there being restrictions on the use of Argentinian pesos, like only in Argentine waters. Also, your average Chinese supermarket in Buenos Aires had better prices than the duty free (with a more restricted selection obviously).

I recall the "duty free" prices were very expensive but then again, the ships have a "captive" audience.

The exchange rate on the ferry is less than the official bank rate.
